REPORTS TO: North American Controller
DEPARTMENT: Finance
JOB SUMMARY: The Heska Canada legal entity Controller is an integral part of the management team as well as a key member of the corporate Finance team. As such, this position requires direct involvement in operational and corporate finance activities, internal control effectiveness and overall maintenance of financial statement information. Duties include overall responsibility for accuracy and timeliness of financial and operational management information to be used in reporting financial results as well as the following:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ongoing/Monthly/Quarterly/Annual Financial Close:
Prepare and/or review all required journal entries and account reconciliations; maintain all P&L and balance sheet accounts and processes under US GAAP, company policy and SOX
Prepare and submit all required Canadian compliance filings
Identify and implement process improvement initiatives when appropriate
Evaluate the financial performance of the entity – analyze spending trends and variances to budget and prior year by customer, by product, by product type
Explain key performance metrics
Responsible for operational effectiveness of all internal controls
Evaluate all contractual relationships for proper revenue recognition in coordination with the corporate finance and accounting team
Coordinate directly with internal and external audit on audit coordination, liaise with corporate team counterparts
Assist with payroll processing and accounting
Responsible for timely and accurate reporting into consolidated SEC documents; ownership of financial statement balances which enable thorough and correct reporting into 10-K’s and 10-Q’s
Annual Budget and Ongoing Forecasts:
Work with management leadership on budget assumptions to develop capacity requirements/shortfalls by area, along with expense, capital and inventory budgets
Perform cash forecasting and cash management functions, including collections and timely payments
Daily and weekly sales reporting to management and corporate
Management:
Accomplishes department objectives by supervising staff and organizing and monitoring work processes.
Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees and developing personal growth opportunities.
Accomplishes staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.
Plans, monitors, and appraises job results.
Conducts training.
Responsible for all accounting sub departments including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, required; CPA preferred
7+ years of progressive accounting and finance-related experience, with working experience in general ledger accounting, required. 5+ years in a leadership role preferred.
Public company experience required.
Good supervisory and communication skills and attention to detail required. High degree of confidentiality.
Previous US GAAP accounting and research experience required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proven ability to lead a team to accurately record and report accounting results.
Ability to effectively work as a productive member of a larger management team.
Ability to understand generally accepted accounting principles and relevant laws, regulations and rules, including as issued and interpreted by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Internal Revenue Service.
Consistently displays good judgement.
Impeccable and demonstrated reputation for honesty and consistently ethical behavior.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Advanced ability with Microsoft Office Suite, Internet Software and E-mail.
Strong written and oral communication skills and organizational and planning abilities required. Strong problem-solving skills are a must.
