Qualifications: Responsibilities:
Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology or
equivalent.
Good standing with a professional organization at a
provincial or national level.
BC teaching certificate or ability to obtain one.
Thorough knowledge and application of school
counselling theory and practice.
Possess strong individual / group counselling and
communication skills.
Ability and interest in working with youth in grades
Kindergarten through to Grade 7.
Ability to organize and sequence activities across all
grades.
Strong work ethic: motivated self-starter.
Ability to be innovative, flexible and collaborative.
Superior ability to build rapport, trust and
relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Superior ability to garner confidence from a network
of key stakeholders (i.e. parents, students, faculty
members, external support services).
Commitment to professional development and
growth.
Key competencies and EQ in self-awareness, selfmanagement, empathy, social expertness, initiative
and accountability.
Collaborate with the Principal in planning, evaluating, facilitating
and revising the school personal counselling program.
Teach and support students SEL and psycho-education lessons in
the classroom.
Support students on a caseload throughout the school day and
provide individual and small-group sessions as needed.
Provide goal-oriented planning sessions to students in the areas
of academic planning and success, career awareness,
social/emotional development, family issues, and healthy
decision-making.
Enrich school-wide and community-wide initiatives and projects.
Facilitate teacher professional development as required.
Facilitate parents’ information sessions as required
Maintain documentation and records for individual students,
ensuring confidentiality in reporting.
Assess students’ SEL needs and provide appropriate feedback to
teachers and parents on student progress and strategies for
support.
Work as a collaborative and supportive member of the Student
Services department.
Promote an understanding and appreciation of diverse
populations and cultures.
Support the overall wellbeing of all students through
involvement in the school’s co-curricular programs (games,
clubs, performing arts and service).
