Position Description

Reporting to the Controller, this position will be responsible for overseeing and analyzing cost expenditures, preparing bids, and analyzing cost saving opportunities within the organization. The cost accountant will review existing purchases, record data, recommend new cost-efficient and financially feasible cost options, and analyse purchasing costs. You will also work across teams to present and translate important financial information and assist in company audits. Month end reporting and be a key member of the standard costs and bill of materials management.

• Develop and maintain cost accounting system, documentation, and records
• Lead BOM cost changes and compilation
• Determine the costs and efficiency of company purchasing activities
• Review costs for all inventory, labor, and material purchases
• Analyze and recommend costs and cost savings
• Collect and compile purchasing data for analysis
• Review and document inventory and material purchases
• Prepare documents, and financial reports to interpret financial information regarding cost improvements for managers, executives
• Support company accounting procedures and processes for period end close
• Analyse cost estimates for new business opportunities, break-even scenarios
• Participate in budget build
• SKU, customer level profitability analysis and reporting
• Compile documentation on standard costs and production costs
• Assist in audits and some general ledger entries

Qualifications

• Demonstrated understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• 2+ years of work experience as a cost accountant, analyst, or other relevant role
• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and best practices
• Familiarity with QuickBooks
• Advanced Computer literacy skills, especially with MS Excel
• Analytical skills with a keen sense of organization and detail
• Proven time management skills and ability to work under strict deadlines
• University degree in accounting or finance, with a Canadian CPA, CPA in process, or path to CPA
• Respect for confidentiality of information laws and local ethics
• Expertise in activity-based costing for fixed and variable costs in relation to the overall direct cost of a line of products

Education

University degree in accounting or finance, with a Canadian CPA, CPA in process, or path to CPA.
