For OSSTF Support Staff
Hours of Work : Monday to Friday – 35 hours per week
Qualifications
Three (3) year degree or diploma in Child and Youth Worker studies, or
Developmental Services Worker Diploma, or Social Services Worker Diploma, or minimum two (2) years of progressive related experience, or
Other Related Specialization Or Combination Of Experience, Education
and
training as determined by the Superintendent.
The successful candidate
Shall
have demonstrated regular attendance at work
have two years’ experience.
possess experience with functional behaviour assessment
demonstrate computer literacy skills
possess excellent communication skills
possess excellent interpersonal skills
Responsibilities : The
Child and Youth Worker contributes to the provision of a spectrum of services
for children and youth who are dealing with a wide range of social, emotional
or behavioural challenges. Their work
focusses on behavioural concerns related to students in partnership with
teachers, parents and support services personnel. The core functions of the position are in the
form of intervention and prevention strategies including but not limited to:
individual counselling
behavioural management
social and life skill instruction
group involvement
activities involving sport, drama or music
in-class academic and social support
The Child and
Youth Worker is guided by on-going assessment and consultation with others who
are involved with the student.
Interdisciplinary consultation, school team meetings, case conferences,
I.P.R.C’s, IEP’s, and developing safety measures to protect students and staff
are key functions of the position.
