We are currently hiring an R&D Hardware Engineer to join our team in Ottawa.
Successful candidate will be part of the Document Readers Hardware R&D team and will be responsible for a multitude of design and support functions spanning all aspects of the product development. In-depth understanding of analog and digital electronics, PCBA design flow and the challenges of integrating complex hardware with low-level firmware applications is a must.
Key Responsibilities:
This role is actively involved in the full hardware development process, including requirements definition, design, implementation and verification.
Develops functional diagrams and design the schematic and the layout for hardware applications;
Performs necessary calculations and analysis for electronic circuit designs.
Selects and evaluate electronic components and work directly with component suppliers on engineering level;
Conducts and support failure analysis at circuit and component level and prepare comprehensive reports.
Provides post production support;
Analyzes and enhances efficiency, stability and scalability of hardware system resources.
Works with firmware/software design and development team.
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics/Computer Science or similar technical field
At least 5 years relevant industry experience in the following areas:
Schematic design;
Layout design;
Working Previous hands on experience with use of Lab equipment/ tools (oscilloscope, measuring devices, hand soldering);
Demonstrated circuit-level analysis and troubleshooting skills;
Experience At least 2 years (?) of experience with embedded systems design, including embedded microcontrollers and FPGAs;
Excellent interpersonal and team skills yet able to work independently – Highly motivated, excellent team spirit, obsessed with providing quality deliverables and is customer oriented
Excellent Team player with proven ability to accomplish goals through collaboration
Ability to operate effectively and autonomously across multiple teams in situations of ambiguity leveraging problem solving skills and a willingness to learn with only high-level direction
Prior experience communicating pertinent and technical information to external customers and other stakeholders on a regular basis
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Proficient with schematic capture and layout design tools, preferably Cadence/OrCAD;
Experience with embedded systems bring up.
