THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for Temporary Full-time Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team at The Gardens, in Qualicum Beach, B.C!
At The Gardens, our Wellness and Rehabilitation Practitioner drives for the best possible physical wellness for our residents. The ideal candidate works with/helps occupational therapists, physical therapists, recreational therapists, and speech-language pathologists to promote, restore, maintain, and/or enhance a client’s level of functioning in the areas of mobility, self-care, productivity, leisure, and day-to-day activities.
Shifts: Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm.
What will your typical day look like:
- Carry out rehabilitative therapeutic interventions
- Carry out group exercise programming to promote wellbeing
- Help in the modification of care plans
- Create and facilitate programs to assist clients with complex disabilities in daily living to attain their goals to maximize potential for independence
- Report relevant observations of a client’s condition and document changes
- Help manage equipment safety and inventory
- Assist in the smooth transition of resident admissions, discharges, and transfers
- Resident care planning
- Working with electronic documentation (PointClickCare)
- Liaises with physicians, families, and other members of the care team
- Delegates rehabilitation tasks to unregulated care providers
- Prepares reports for medical team and care conferences
- Assist in improving and maintaining the overall wellbeing of our residents
- To maintain the waling Program under the direction of the Physiotherapist
- To implement the daily group exercise programs created with the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist with input from the Physiotherapist and Occupational therapist
- To plan and implement a small group activity in partnership with the Recreation team
- To develop and implement care plans from an activity perspective
- Documentation in Point Click Care (PCC) progress notes
- Maintain attendance records for activities
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Rehab diploma (two-year program) from a recognize school or equivalent and/or experience working (two (2) years) as a Rehab/Therapy Assistant
Skills and Abilities:
- Work experience varied – New Graduates welcome
- Must possess the personal qualities and attitudes that respect and maintain the spirit, dignity, and individuality of the residents
- Must have a commitment to excellence in Care of the older person in a Long-Term Care environment
- Must be committed and understand working with residents with dementia
- Must have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills and is able to residents, resident’s families, and external agencies
- Ability to work independently but also guide and lead a team of staff members
- Demonstrates good time management
- Has a commitment to ongoing professional development for self and others
- Physically and mentally able to perform duties for above position
- Be a role model for other staff members
- Show a professional, caring, and considerate attitude to residents, visitors, and staff
