The Cultivated B (TCB) is a highly innovative and science-driven biotechnology and bioengineering company from Germany, focusing on developing and manufacturing high-precision systems for cellular agriculture and pharmaceutical industry.
Our recently opened facility in Burlington, ON, is focused on the development and production of bioreactors, photobioreactors and advanced machineries for cellular agriculture and precision fermentation. Our integrated R&D center within the same facility is an Ontario hub for innovation in bioprocess design and optimization, plant-based engineering, food technology and scaled alternative protein production.
Position Overview
As a Finance Manager, you will be responsible for establishing the TCB Canada Group’s (TCB Canada, TCB REH und PreFer Industries) finance processes comprising payments, liquidity management, accounting, financial reporting, tax, and customs and ESG compliance. In parallel you will support the implementation of internal controls system based on global TCB standards.
With an in-depth experience and proven track record in finance (accounting, treasury, and financial reporting) you will ensure the YE closing process and generation of financial statements for the individual companies as well consolidated financial statement for the TCB Canada Group. You will manage external providers of statutory accounts for CRA (tax) purposes.
Within the next two years you will insource and align the existing, distributed accounting and payroll processes which are currently outsourced to a professional Big4 accounting company. In this context you will also support the ERP implementation project.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to- day payment, accounting, controlling and financial planning in collaboration with local Big4, YE closing supervision and over time preparation of YE financial statements and financial planning (insourcing).
- Establish and run accounts payable and accounts receivables incl. dunning process.
- Establish and maintain strong internal control systems (ICS) ensuring internal and external financial compliance as well as ESG compliance.
- Identify & pro-actively handle financial risks while balancing equity/dept ratios and financial instruments.
- Support contract management and pricing processing.
- Work with TCB’s core banks in Canada to continuously optimize payments and financial transactions; deepen bank relationships with exiting banks to analyse optimization potentials.
- Establish performant trade finance organisation and processes (customs, duties, trade insurance incoterms, EDC collaboration).
- Develop financial KPI system to establish 360-degree financial management reporting.
- Proactive team development to insource current outsourced payroll and accounting processes.
- Supervision of annual tax declaration and filing with CRA (handled by external tax accountant).
- Secure that group transfer pricing guidelines and schemes are followed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting is required; a professional accounting designation CA/CPA, CFA and/or MBA is preferred.
- 5+ years of financial management and accounting experience, preferably within a Big 4 auditors or manufacturing environment.
- Strong technical accounting, planning, reporting and systems expertise (ERP).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to identify complex business issues, provide logical, compelling, and clear plans for action.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High degree of responsibility, reliability, resilience, flexibility, and loyalty
- Very good English skills both written and oral
