Business Office Accountant
LOCATION: Yarmouth, NS FACILITY: 105 Bed – Long Term Care
TYPE: Full Time (1950 hrs.) (Average 75.0 hours/pay period)
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
As a member of the business office team; the primary purpose of the Accountant is to assist the Director of Finance and Administration (DF&A) in the day to day financial and HR functions of the organization (such as payroll processing, CRA remittances, T4’s, accounts payable, receivables, bank reconciliations, resident trusts, year-end pension reporting, audit preparation) and ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions. This position may require you to wear a mask for the duration of your shift. The Meadows is a member of NSHEPP pension plan and HANS group of Employee Benefits Plan. Proof of vaccination is required for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
While a degree in Business Administration or Commerce with CPA Designation is preferred, we will accept a combination of education and experience (minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in an accounting department or business office environment):
· Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices, Public Sector Accounting Standards, fund accounting, internal control principles, federal and provincial legislation, and employment standards.
· Knowledge of nonprofit sector and fund accounting.
· Experience with annual year-end pension reporting (preferably NSHEPP).
· Payroll courses / certification.
· Experience using payroll systems (e.g., ADP Pay @ Work and Staff Schedule Care).
· Experience in a unionized environment.
· Proficiency in IS/IT systems Sage Accounting, Microsoft office suite, Keyboarding proficiency (60 wpm) with accuracy – preferred.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to successfully meet strict deadlines while working in a fast-paced business office environment.
· Strong oral and written skills.
· Previous experience in working with the elderly or the ability to work with the elderly preferred.
· Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate daily communication with Residents, Families and Staff, and to work cooperatively as part of a team.
· Ability to work independently and must have strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
· Ability to maintain and respect the confidentiality of personnel, business and resident information.
· Ability to maintain regular attendance at work.
· Candidates with a suitable combination of experience and education (as determined by the Employer) may be considered.
· Salary range $55k to $60k
