The Nightingale Centre for Grieving Children, Youth and Families in Guelph/Wellington is looking for someone who would like to make a positive difference in their community and support a local not for profit with bookkeeping.
CONTRACT SUMMARY
This is a contract opportunity. The Nightingale Centre is seeking the services of a financial bookkeeper. The anticipated commitment for this position is 8-12 hours per month and would be remote with occasional in-person meetings. This position reports to the Executive Director.
ABOUT THE NIGHTINGALE CENTRE FOR GRIEVING CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES
We are The Nightingale Centre, a charity that helps and supports children, young people and their parents/caregivers after someone important in their life dies. We have supported hundreds of young people and families in rebuilding their lives around grief since 2019. We are part of the Guelph-Wellington community. We are a team of compassion and caring people who work to build a community where no child, young person or family grieves alone.
The responsibilities for this position are:
• Maintain financial records on an accrual basis using a generally accepted electronic recordkeeping system such as QuickBooks or Simply Accounting.
• Maintain paper copies of all financial documents such as invoices, statements, and deposit records.
• Ensure the financial records are kept up-to-date with deposits and expenditures recorded when received or incurred.
• Provide financial information for the Executive Director or Board Chair when requested.
• Ensure the bank and credit card accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis.
• Prepare up-to-date financial statements for the Board of Directors meetings.
• Submit semi-annual HST Rebate applications to CRA.
• At yearend, ensure the financial records binder and electronic records are up-to-date, ready for review by the third-party reviewer.
• Issue T4 and T4A slips as required and copies sent to the CRA.
Qualifications
• Experience in the use of electronic financial recordkeeping systems,
• Familiar with double-entry, accrual accounting methodology,
• Good written/verbal communication skills,
• Experience with computers, has access to computer and internet,
• Ability to work independently and within team,
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills,
• Experience working with not for profits and volunteers an asset
