Compensation Range

The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

The UBC Sauder’s Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) supports business students’ personal and professional development journey to responsible leadership through customized services focused on self-exploration, career development and access to business communities. Our team supports approximately 5,000 students across undergraduate and graduate programs.
The Career Strategist is part of the BCC team and supports UBC Sauder students enrolled in the Robert H. Lee Graduate School (RHL) to become career-ready graduates – able to connect their skills, talents, interests and education to the changing world of work. The Career Strategist is responsible for supporting student learning and promoting student engagement in personal, professional, and career building experiences within and beyond the university. The Career Strategist designs, develops, delivers, and evaluates in-person and online career learning across the graduate student population within UBC Sauder School of Business. The Career Strategist leverages and incorporates direct industry experience and knowledge to student program development and advising. The services will be provided both in person and in virtual format.
The Career Strategist delivers a high-quality level of service to a high-expectation population with discrete and multi-faceted needs. The incumbent may be working with Master of Business Administration, Master of Management, Master of Management Dual, and Master of Business Analytics students. The Career Strategist is responsible for the entire cycle of students’ career journey at UBC Sauder, from admissions/intake to internship landings – in collaboration with the Centre’s Business Development team – to new grad support.
The Career Strategist achieves results in four key areas of responsibility:
Across all four areas of responsibility, the incumbent will align with career development principles and employ advising practices to deliver, assess and evaluate programs and services to students.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Associate Director, MBA Careers and regularly plans and collaborates with colleagues from across the BCC as well as the RHL. May supervise external consultants, support employees and students, and takes on leadership roles in cross-functional team projects within the BCC, and RHL.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Works with considerable autonomy and exercises considerable judgment in carrying out assignments and respectfully dealing with a diverse group of important stakeholders. Accountable for the effective execution of all matters related to graduate students’ career services and the effectiveness of the services provided. Makes significant independent decisions and recommendations in areas of planning, organizing and scheduling of work. Establishes own operational procedures for graduate Career Services, monitors progress, and recommends program development changes in relation to curriculum needs and stakeholder feedback. Exercises significant level of judgment in dealings with the business community, faculty members and alumni.
Supervision Received
Reports to the Associate Director, MBA Careers. Works autonomously under broad guidelines and under a high level of accountability.
Supervision Given
Trains and supervises support employees, student assistants, interns, consultants and/or volunteers. Trains new professional employees in the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three to four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
