Job Summary & Reporting Structure:
Reporting to the Tool Engineering Leader. Oversees the design and manufacturing or modification of molds ensuring compliance to specifications. Includes new program tooling, current production tooling, engineering changes and major refurbishment of molds.
Responsibilities:
Execute all new tooling – design and manufacturing with direction from Program manager
Oversee the design and manufacturing or modification of molds ensuring compliance to specifications. Includes new program tooling, current production tooling, engineering changes and major refurbishment of molds
Attend all Tooling Design Review Meetings (TDRM) to ensure design criteria meets Tiercon’s Mold Build Specifications
Attend Customer Meetings to ensure parts designed for feasible tooling conditions.
Attend Tool Trials at plant to ensure tools performing as designed/built
Provide Plant site Tool Engineering support for major moulding/tooling repairs and issues.
Develop, maintain and issue standard RFQ packages with purchasing for the release of all new and current production tool requirements
Provide tooling schedules and reports to customers and associates
Regular tool follow up and frequent vendor visits, enforcing all Tiercon’s mold specifications
Assist with external tryouts, qualifying molds prior to internal trials
Verify internal mold/component qualification process such as Design of Experiment (DOE) matrix and design reviews
Develop the PM program for all moulds
Investigate and recommend improvements to tooling requirements for new and existing programs
Maintain the mold standards design and build specifications, updating as required
Ensure all APQP and IATF 16949 documentation relating to new moulds is updated and maintained
Initiate new technologies to aid in creating improved lead times, process control and overall component qualifications
Interface with respective departments in the selection process of awarding molds with appropriate vendors locally and abroad. Includes the sourcing and evaluations of all current and new vendors for molds
Support major mould repairs and liaison with plant tool maintenance, moulding and quality assurance on any requirements associated with the repairs
Follow the repair of moulds where applicable transport moulds to local shops for repair (i.e. welding)
Qualifications:
Education Required
Grade 12 and trade school and or Engineering Degree
Training Required
Mould Making, Mould Design,
Skills Required
Multi Tasking, Detail Oriented, Strong MS Office, 3D Cad (viewing), ability to interface with the customer, ability to work independently
Equivalent Experience
5 – 8 years injection mould tooling build and design, Tooling Engineering and Maintenance an asset
