Job Overview
Instructor Therapists will work one-on-one with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (or in a group setting) while employing Applied Behaviour Analysis (IBI/ ABA) teaching strategies under the direction of a BCBA.
Core Responsibilities:
Responsible for implementing Intensive Behavioural Intervention on a one-to-one (or in a group setting) in accordance the client’s individual service plan. Daily activities include:
Carry a caseload.
Participate in intake and assessment activities as appropriate.
Provide input into each child’s curriculum.
Prepare and organize the teaching environment and materials.
Utilize sound clinical judgment.
Daily data collection, tracking, and analysis, including graphing and summarizing information and preparing reports.
Flags exceptional circumstances as well as the need for changes to the program plan with Clinical Supervisor.
Address personal care requirements of the child during each session.
Attending meetings with family and other service providers as required.
Monitor clients’ progress and effectiveness of individual programs.
Participate in the treatment planning process with parents and relevant others.
Maintain regular communications with parents and family members as required.
Other duties include but not limited to:
Attending team meetings.
Contributing information and ideas to the team process.
Communicating and interacting in professional and respectful manner.
Providing mentoring and collegial support as required.
Utilizing educational opportunities (e.g. attending professional development meetings).
Maintaining knowledge of and adhering to legislative requirements and professional standards.
Completing Centre administrative activities and requirements including workload measurement, attendance, serious occurrences and incident reports.
Adheres to employee responsibilities for Health & Safety as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and applicable regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
University degree or College diploma in behavioural sciences, social services, psychology or early childhood education
Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) or in progress
Minimum of 1 year work experience.
Have a good understanding of early childhood education, autism and applied behaviour analysis
Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities and/or Autism
Available to work evenings, weekend, in home and centre-based
An interest in professional development and further developing clinical skills
Strong interpersonal and time-management skills;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Access to a reliable means of transportation (e.g., TTC, personal vehicle);
Demonstrated reliability and dependability
Strong interpersonal skills to gain trust and respect of children and their parents.
Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience and styles.
Ability to manage children with challenging behaviors and communicate effectively with parents in a positive way.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.
Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Satisfactory current Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check.
Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19
Working Conditions
Classroom setting
Comfortable working in a structured environment
Must be able to wear a mask and shield throughout their shift.
Must be willing to do cleaning duties.
Ability to spend most of the day at the child’s level, i.e. sitting on the floor, or on child height chairs.
Able to bend, stoop and lift child to adult height (up to 20 kg) and to move children’s furniture or equipment to prepare room for programming needs.
