Toronto School of Management Looking for Career Services Officer at Toronto, Ontario, Canada Full Time

Fleming College Toronto is seeking a Career Services Officer who is passionate about working with students and graduates in the field of education and career development. The purpose of the Career Services Officer is to engage and support students to ensure they have the resources and knowledge needed to make informed career decisions, and find employment in their chosen career. The candidate will seek and nurture meaningful connections with employers in the business industry and commit to our students and graduates by helping them achieve professional development opportunities and ultimately employment.

Under the supervision of the Career Services Manager, the Career Services Officer is responsible for building meaningful connections with students and employers, providing programs and support to students in their career learning and development, and working collaboratively with internal and external partners to meet departmental goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the first point of contact in the Career Services office. Provide outstanding customer service, and communicate directly with students, alumni, employers, and FCT staff.
• Facilitate 1 on 1 meetings, consultations, and professional development sessions with students.
• Prepare and facilitate group workshops and webinars for students to develop important career skills and processes such as resume writing, cover letter critiques, interview techniques, phone skills, email etiquette, networking, LinkedIn, etc.
• Actively seek, develop, and nurture working relationships with employers in related program fields to provide meaningful and successful employment opportunities to students and graduates.
• Identify barriers to employment for international students and develop solutions and resources, to resolve those barriers
• Monitor and update physical and digital job boards, while actively implementing new and innovative strategies to increase student awareness of potential employment opportunities within related fields.
• Assist in planning and executing job fairs, networking events and career-related experiences for students and graduates, both on and off-campus.
• Assist in gathering and reporting on student employment rates and statistical data through surveys and other correspondence to ensure the success of career-related efforts, and to meet departmental goals and expectations.
• Gathering and maintaining current database of student documentation related to career services, co-op and placements while ensuring reports are completed accurately and timely.
• Administer work-integrated learning follow-up surveys and other correspondence to students, graduates, and employers.
• Perform other student and career service-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Career Services, HR, Post-Secondary, or relevant support role.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, specifically in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Demonstrated skills in understanding career foundations and job placement.
• Proven experience handling a large caseload and working with international students is a definite asset.
• Strong communication skills in all forms including written, oral, email, telephone, and presentation.
