Toronto School of Management has entered an exciting partnership with Niagara College to deliver select Niagara College programs in downtown Toronto. This partnership allows international students to enroll in some of Niagara College’s most sought-after programs in Toronto. Part of GUS Canada Colleges.

Position Overview:

Student Rights and Responsibilities Officer leads a collaborative effort to build a healthy, safe, and respectful learning environment at Niagara College Toronto. The Officer will assist students in understanding their rights and responsibilities and investigates any violation of the student code of conduct and non-academic misconduct. This position requires compliance with high sensitivity, confidentiality, private information, and record-keeping standards.

Responsibilities:

• Consult students on their rights and responsibilities in compliance with the relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
• Evaluate incidents of non-compliance with the Student Code of Conduct.
• Mediate conflicts related to student conduct and behavior.
• Investigate student misconduct, assess outcomes, and develop moving-forward improvement plans.
• Provide clear guidelines on policies and procedures to stakeholders and the community.
• Assist in reviewing and refining SRRO-related policies for better understanding.
• Manage a confidential database tracking student conduct case, appeals, and resolutions.
• Act as the initial point of contact for student behavior improvement and misconduct cases, ensuring effective communication with all parties involved.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on special projects related to the SRRO.
• Report emergencies, time-sensitive, serious, or critical incidents promptly to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Manager.
• Support initiatives to raise awareness of student rights and responsibilities in collaboration with other departments.
• Perform additional responsibilities as needed.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously and inclusively with diverse groups, including students, staff, and faculty.
• Experience in student misconduct and investigation processes.
• Ability to analyze and explain students’ rights and responsibilities policies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to respond to student concerns in fast-paced, high-pressure environments and emergencies.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and compliance in post-secondary education, including the Mental Health Act of Ontario, Ontario Human Rights Code, AODA, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Acts.
• Ability to build trust and productive relationships with stakeholders.
• Strong work ethics, accountability, integrity, and respect.

Education and Experience:

• Relevant bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience with international students in a post-secondary environment.

Working Conditions:

On-site from Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, or

On-site from Tuesday to Saturday from 1:30 pm to 10 pm.
