ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently seeking a seasoned Compensation Advisor / Sr. Compensation Specialist to join our corporate Total Rewards team. This role will be our subject matter expert in broad-based compensation programs across all operating geographies, including Canada, the US, and Australia, inclusive of base pay, variable pay, and TransAlta’s industry-leading employee recognition programs. You will be responsible for the administration of the annual compensation cycle, completion of compensation and total reward surveys, and the development, implementation, and administration of TransAlta’s core reward programs. You will also provide backup support to the Executive Compensation Analyst.
This is a full-time salaried position at our head office in Downtown Calgary with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Monitor and sustain corporate-wide compensation policies;
Conduct annual benchmarking exercises which include survey completion, analysis, and modeling and providing recommendations for innovative and industry-leading compensation programs and practices including base pay, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, and other reward programs;
Design and maintain pay structures, rates, and related policies reflective of TransAlta compensation philosophies and pay equity principles;
Develop, implement and administer industry-leading corporate-wide recognition and reward programs;
Participate in the planning and coordination of TransAlta’s annual President’s Awards program and celebration;
Develop and facilitate communication sessions for employees and/or leaders related to compensation and rewards education and administration matters;
Project management of the annual compensation planning cycle and annual administration of the program within the Success Factors system;
Collaborate with Finance for quarterly accrual process with the provision of audit and financial reporting data to meet compliance requirements, as well as maintain audit (SOX) compliance documents for work pertaining to compensation;
Liaison with the Human Resources Business Partners regarding change management, communication, and training in broad-based compensation and reward programs;
Provide support to the executive compensation analyst in the Shareworks system for the administration of long-term incentives.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field;
Minimum five years experience in human resource management with solid broad-based compensation experience;
Expert Excel knowledge and HRIS skills (SAP and Success Factors experience preferred);
Excellent written and presentation skills, including the ability to create and present training material, briefing notes, etc.;
Exceptional analytical and business acumen to study and analyze complex business and compensation objectives and make recommendations to resolve concerns or meet objectives.
