Through your leadership style, you will promote a positive safety culture and provide strategic guidance on resource planning, growth and development for 50+ employees.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Make use of proper document control processes to create, update and implement HSSE and HR policies, procedures and on-line training as required and track training & competency in Safety Management System software.
Manage a formal incident reporting tracking system and complete investigations in a timely manner. Utilize KPI’s to identify leading and lagging indicators and create preventative campaigns.
Work with insurance agencies for resolution of injury, vehicle accidents & cargo claims.
Manage security systems and processes for sites to maintain certification in CBSA -C-TPAT, CBS -PIP & FAST clearances.
Ensure compliance with Federal programs to meet environmental, accessibility, mental health, and anti-harassment and violence legislation.
Accountable for all risk portfolio assessments and audits from preparation to action management and closure. (ie: C-TPAT/PIP, COR, Canada Labour, Worksafe BC, DOT, NSC, Internal, & Client)
Manage CVSE NSC/FMCSA DOT safety system to ensure compliance of key components (Training, Driver Records, HOS, DVIR and a Drug and Alcohol program with 3rd party testing and Clearinghouse.)
Liaise with Safety and Trucking Alliances to stay current on industry concerns and needs.
Oversee Contractor Management Program and update processes as required.
Keep client Registries current with safety statistics and policies. (ISN, Avetta) and complete pre-qual packages.
Utilize HRIS to manage employee files, track time/leaves/vacation and benefits.
Recruit, interview and onboard/orientate both in and out of scope new hires.
Manage both Safety and HR investigations, disciplinary hearings, performance improvement and terminations.
Manage benefits and ST/LT disability claims in accordance with Return to Work program.
Assist with bargaining unit negotiations and act as mediator.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
3 to 5 years of HSE background is desired with preference given to transportation.
Proficiency in MS Office is required.
Communication is vital in this job function. It must be clear, precise, and professional with an understanding of confidentiality and sensitivity being of primary importance.
Exceptional attention to detail with excellent organization, observation, and documentation skills.
Good working knowledge of COR Safety protocols, CVSE NSC and FMCSA compliance regulations, federal, provincial and municipal regulations/legislation, the Canadian Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations and applicable Human Rights.
Practical knowledge of WorkSafe BC/AB WCB processes and procedures, including claims management and related legislation.
Experience or an understanding of working within a unionized environment and application of the Canada Labour Code is considered an asset.
Committed team player and the ability to work independently.
Having or working towards a CRSP or CRST designation is considered an asset.
