Based at Toronto Western Hospital, Family and Community Health Program links with the surrounding community to provide primary care to families and community members, with special attention to the needs of the aging population, children and women.
With the teamwork of pharmacists, social workers, physicians, primary care nurse practitioners and staff nurses, we do our best to help families deal with a broad range of health concerns. We also help connect families with the care of specialists when needed.
As a member of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Toronto Western Family Health Team, the Clerical Assistant III are required to perform a range of duties requiring knowledge to perform a series of complex statistical and financial processing activities of a clerical nature. The Clerical Assistant III (Physician Finance) manages a range of billing processes associated with the Family Practice Associates, including billings to Ministry of Health, third party billings and direct patient billings. Key responsibilities include entering coding into the PSS billing system, preparing submissions to the MOH, reviewing, analyzing and reconciling MOH error reports and receiving and reconciling MOH EDT. The Clerical Assistant III (Physician Finance) also performs billing and analysis of third party billing for a range of individual accounts as well as performing direct patient billings for services provided by the FPA that are not covered by OHIP. This role works closely with the Finance Chair and the accountants of the FPA, TW FHT Quality and Project lead, as well as all of the staff physicians and reception team in the TW FHT. The Clerical Assistant III also acts as an expert resource for billing staff at all TW FHT sites.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum High School and one additional program from an accredited program of study
- Completion of a medical OHIP billing program or recognized equivalent
- At minimum, over 1 year up to and including 2 years practical and related experience
- Completion of medical terminology and booking keeping programs, preferred
- Experience in a billing environment with exposure to a range of basic accounting practices, procedures and principles preferred
- Working in a primary care healthcare environment, preferred
- Basic knowledge of accounting practices, procedures and generally accepted accounting principles
- Skill in performing detailed numerical computations
- Skill in preparing detailed reports
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Good organization and time management skills
- Working knowledge of computer applications and software applications, preferable in a Microsoft Office and Practice System Solutions environment
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to client service and satisfaction
- Demonstrated leadership skills including, excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal and organizational skills
- Excellent self-direction, team-building, problem-solving, organization and time management skills
