The Regional Stroke Education Coordinator (RSEC) is a dedicated regional resource to support implementation and evaluation of educational initiatives in the Toronto West Regional Stroke Network and across Toronto. To this end the RSEC works across the continuum of care (health promotion, primary care, secondary prevention, emergency and acute stroke care, stroke rehabilitation, community re-integration, community care and LTC) and with the broader Toronto Stroke Networks (TSNs) regional teams. The RSEC is a region wide resource with region wide responsibilities. The role encompasses elements of facilitator, coordinator, consultant, change agent and educator.
Identifies new initiatives or programs that may be required to advance best practice stroke care uptake and integration of stroke services across the continuum of care, contributing to the development of the regional work plan
Monitors the regional work plan to ensure initiatives are within the allocated budget
Provides and delivers education activity within area of expertise, as required
Contributes to the identification of needs including potential educational opportunities and gaps in resources
Organizes and coordinates the implementation of education and training activities
Supports the implementation of the regional education plan in collaboration with the Regional Stroke Program Director and Toronto Stroke Networks team to address needs of stakeholders
Development of educational resources/clinical protocols/learning modules/sessions with adult learning principles. Leverages available technology as appropriate
Supports awareness and uptake of resources, tools and strategies
Leads meetings, initiatives and events as required to support implementation of the regional work plan
At minimum 4 years experience in the health care system
Expertise in stroke care and knowledge of the continuum of stroke care including implementation of stroke best practice recommendations; direct clinical experience, preferred
Demonstrated skills as an educator, and project management skills, required
Training in adult education principles, preferred
Demonstrated expertise in program and project evaluation, required
Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills
Demonstrated coordination and networking skills
Previous experience as a change agent with an understanding of organizational cultures
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholder groups and individuals
High level of initiative and self-direction
