Position Summary
The Education Coordinator will be a key member of the Palliative Care Division within the Department of Supportive Care at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The Department of Supportive Care includes Palliative Care, Psychosocial Oncology and Cancer Rehabilitation & Survivorship. It is a local and international centre of excellence in clinical care, research and education. The successful applicant will support palliative care multi-level learner recruitment and operations across UHN, working closely with the fellowship directors and physician education leads at each site.
Duties
- Develop guidelines and processes to ensure successful trainee placements
- Coordinate the recruitment, placement, scheduling and follow up for all palliative care trainees in including clinical fellows, residents and medical students within and across each of the palliative care services at the Princess Margaret, Toronto General and Toronto Western sites.
- Manage the multiple levels of approvals and qualifications required to register the various types of trainees in Palliative Care at UHN and other collaborating institutions.
- Coordinate the trainee placements across the three (3) UHN sites (and some outside of UHN) in relation to the needs of the trainees and the schedules of the physicians
- Coordinate the home call schedules of residents and fellows within PARO guidelines across the sites
- Interface with the University of Toronto, UHN Medical Education and the various UHN departments involved in credentialing trainees, and providing them with the needed access including electronic chart access
- Undertake all the steps required to facilitate the registration and participation of international trainees
- Develop and maintain a trainee database on a shared drive for access by physicians
- Liaise with administrators in POWER to coordinate evaluations when needed
- Organize local UHN teaching rounds and lectures, including arranging for presenters and collating needs assessment and evaluation data
- Facilitate and coordinate meetings and other educational events related to palliative care education
- Provides support for medical learners during their clinical placements at the Division of Palliative care through partnering effectively with Chief Fellow, Education Leads, Fellowship Directors and other education and academic partners at UHN and University of Toronto
- Collect evaluation data regarding the learners experience at UHN Palliative Care
- Represent the Division of Palliative Care as needed in the relevant hospital and university education committees
- For fellows enrolled in SEAP, prepare required evaluation documents (EPAs, ITARs etc.) in preparation for quarterly meetings with directors
Qualifications
- Completion of a Bachelors of Education, Business Administration, or recognized equivalent, Masters Degree in Education or a related field, or equivalent strongly preferred
- Four years’ practical and related experience in supportive care/health care/clinical or similar environment
- Knowledge of health care education processes and an understanding of the needs of trainees and physician teachers
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Results oriented and demonstrated time management skills
- Proven ability to work well in a team environment
- Superb organizational skills with proven flexibility and adaptability
