Job description

Ursa Creative is looking for a frontend developer to help develop and maintain a software system that supports the operational and programmatic needs of housing and homelessness services in BC. The project includes intake, tracking of statistical data, and generation of insights from the data collected. The system supports frontline workers in their positions to remove administrative burden and keep accurate statistics which can be used to better programs and organizational workflows. The developer position is a great opportunity to contribute to software products that service Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples across BC and Canada. We primarily produce database-backed web applications using a variety of technologies and programming languages.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Ursa team to develop and maintain web applications
• See projects through to completion in a timely manner
• Participate in design and code review processes with the Ursa team
• Maintain active communication with the Ursa team and others about project status, timeline, and details
• Maintain active communication with the Ursa team and others about desired features, issue tracking, and project status
• Where appropriate, work can be done from home, although some in-office presence may be required
• Stay current on software development technology and make suggestions and recommendations as appropriate
• Work as part of an Agile team and participate in scrums and sprints

Requirements

Candidates should be comfortable working in a team-based environment, have some experience developing web applications, and be generally familiar with database technologies. Some familiarity with the software development life cycle is a plus. Familiarity and/or experience with one or more of the following is required:

• HTML/CSS
• JavaScript

Familiarity and/or experience with one or more of the following technologies is highly desired, but not required:

• TypeScript
• REST APIs
• Vue/Angular/React (or other frontend frameworks)
• Docker

Other useful skillsets:

• Familiarity with the Indigenous community in Victoria, BC, and Canada (desired, but not required)
• Familiarity with charities and non-profits in Canada (desired, but not required)
• Ability to work independently and to learn quickly
• Organized and detail oriented
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work on projects alone and within a team
• Confidence, tact, and skill in dealing with diverse communities: You may be dealing with various stakeholders including Indigenous organizations and people(s)
• Confidence, tact, and skill in dealing with marginalized people: You may be dealing with various marginalized stakeholders including social service organizations

Salary: $27.00-$33.65 per hour
