VCH’s Indigenous Health team works with staff and physicians across all programs and departments to provide strategic leadership, partner collaboration and community engagement to assist VCH to become a more culturally competent and safe organization.
As an Director, Strategic Partnerships and Performance, Indigenous Health with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
Develop, foster and manage all external and internal partnerships with stakeholders, including First Nations, Metis, governments, municipalities, FNHA and other regional Health Authorities, foundations, post-secondary institutes and housing.
Represent Indigenous Health at multiple stakeholder and partnership tables, including membership on committees and advisories.
Oversee all performance management activities across the portfolio and guides the Indigenous Health leadership team with the development of performance indicators and measures.
Provide senior level advice and guidance to VCH leadership, and develops reporting mechanisms (monthly; quarterly and annually) for SET & Board and the public on behalf of the department.
Education & Experience
Master’s Degree in Business Administration or a related discipline.
Minimum of seven to ten (7 to 10) years’ recent, related experience that includes managing strategic and operational projects and facilitating and managing consultation processes with a wide group of stakeholders, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Minimum of five (5) years working for an Aboriginal organization/program that includes interacting and developing relationships with Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities as well as government agencies and ministries along with extensive understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal culture and specifically Vancouver Coastal Health region’s First Nation’s cultures.
Preference given to candidates identifying as First Nations, Metis, or Inuit.
Knowledge & Abilities
In depth knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Culture and History in BC and Canada.
Demonstrated ability to partner, negotiate, facilitate, build consensus and effectively collaborate to build relationships that promote the achievement of cooperative goals and contribute to an atmosphere of mutual respect.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage and evaluate programs/services considering client needs, service delivery interrelationships and service potential within a complex environment.
Extensive knowledge of health and business administration including strategic and operational planning.
Demonstrated analytical and evaluation skills.
Demonstrated operational planning, monitoring, analytical, evaluation and reporting expertise.
Knowledge of program planning, implementation and evaluation approaches including community development strategies.
Proven ability to design, implement and manage complex planning, reporting and business processes.
Applies knowledge and use of quantitative and qualitative analysis to develop constructive reports based on results and findings.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences both internal and external to the organization.
Demonstrated ability to lead, guide and facilitate change as well as anticipated future change in service delivery and develop strategies that optimize resources to improve efficiency and quality of care.
Applies and shares strategic knowledge about aboriginal culture and priorities to build partnerships, understanding and advance quality improvement.
Uses broad knowledge of the aboriginal community’s social, political and economic environment in the provision of strategic advice to stakeholders across VCH relating to government, community and media communications.
Applies solid knowledge of best practice business methods to help advance Aboriginal culture, executive communications, executive engagement with frontline staff, corporate business practices and online and in-person communications
Demonstrated highly specialized skills in assessing and managing conflict and communication in often cross cultural, emotionally charged, and complex learning environments.
Understands available community resources for practice and keeps quality in the forefront of all resource utilization decisions; provides knowledgeable input into the planning and resources allocation for Service(s)/Program(s) within VCH.
Facilitates, collaborates and negotiates for effective resolution of practice issues.
Fosters collaborative and effective working relationships to support the professional practice and ongoing development of staff and contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
Makes independent decisions using analytical and problem solving skills while remaining calm, alert and high-functioning in stressful situations.
Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of complex health care operations, and department’s goals and objectives to deliver strategic communications.
Uses advanced skills and experience in business writing, as well as the skill to develop compelling written and presentations to target and engage a variety of external and internal stakeholders.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
