More specifically, this role will guide the strategic and administrative direction for Disability Services and Interpreting Services and ensure that these areas persistently move toward leading and sustainable practices, policies, procedures, and processes. Reporting to the AVP, Student & Enrolment Services this highly collaborative role will also develop, support and/or lead many cross-functional efforts and initiatives focused on welcoming and supporting students with disabilities through their educational journey.
Under the direction of the AVP, the Associate Director may be asked to provide administrative leadership and oversight with Departments within the Student & Enrolment Services portfolio and facilitate opportunities for enhanced coordination of supports between departments.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership and Operations
Leads the collaborative development of strategic and operational plans, project plans, service reviews and other tools to guide and support the implementation of the College’s overall direction and vision for accessibility services including the Disability Services and Interpreting Services departments.
Leads and/or facilitates departmental and cross-functional teams consisting of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful, efficient, and on-budget implementation of tasks, objectives and initiatives.
Provides administrative leadership and administrative oversight of the departments of Disability Services and Interpreting Services.
Responsible for the practices, policies, procedures, and processes relate to student accessibility including those within the functional preview of Disability Services and Interpreting Services.
2. Projects, Business Process Improvements, and Reporting
Develops strategic goals, measurable objectives and evaluation measures, appropriate tools, processes and procedures relates to ensure full adherence with established leading practices, standards and legislation as applicable (e.g. Accessibility Act).
Provides strategic leadership and analysis to identify and measure opportunities, new and creative approaches based on demographic information of students in the broader community, research trends and best practices at peer institutions.
In collaboration with many institutional stakeholders, takes a leadership role in improving campus wide awareness and understanding of the accessibility services and supports available to students with disabilities.
Ensures services are provided are based on institutional, governmental and legislative priorities and/or frameworks and are informed by student data, demographics, technology factors, and innovations in the field.
Assists with the development and monitoring project grants and reports as required for funding and resources.
Ensures any required departmental, institutional and governmental reports and statistics are prepared and submitted accurately and in a timely manner.
3. Specialized Student Support and Engagement
Works closely with Institutional Risk as well as People Services on matters that related to the College’s legal duty to accommodate students.
Available for case consultations, as necessary, with team members to ensure reasonable service levels (e.g. accommodations) are being facilitated.
Responsible for ensuring that student issues or concerns are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner and are referred to the appropriate College department or other external agencies, as appropriate.
Liaises with external agencies including other post-secondary institutions, government ministries, and advocacy groups in ways that profiles, promotes and fosters continued development of accessibility and resources for students with disabilities.
Collaborates with team members, and other departments (e.g. the Centre for Teaching and Learning Research, Facilities, IT) on Universal Design principles to help support increased accessibility.
4. Human Resources Leadership
In accordance with College policy and collective agreements, has overall responsibility for the selection, assignment, evaluation, training and development of reporting administrators, faculty and staff within the portfolio areas of responsibility.
Fosters a culture that attracts and retains key talent. Identifies high potential individuals and develops departmental leaders with succession potential.
Provides effective leadership, coaching and direction to the staff, fostering a collaborative and service-oriented culture and creating a positive experience.
Provides expertise as the administrative central point within the College related to specialized supports and services for students with disabilities.
5. Budgeting & Expenses
Develops and monitors budgets, helps ensure the effective use of resources and seeks the collection and maintenance of data/metrics for reporting and decision-making purposes.
Facilitates the development and maintenance of contracts and terms of agreements with outside contractors/vendors related to supports, projects, special events and initiatives.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
A Master’s Degree in a related field from a recognized educational institution.
Five (5) years recent related experience in a leadership role in planning and delivery complex service support to students with disabilities within post-secondary student services including relevant experience in leading pan institutional projects, initiatives and collaborations related to support services
Or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated record of outstanding leadership with extensive experience developing and implementing impactful access and student focused services and initiatives.
Demonstrated working knowledge related to access, equity, diversity and inclusion, and with a strong awareness and appreciation for indigenization and decolonization.
Strong working knowledge of student services in post-secondary education.
Demonstrated leadership skills within a unionized environment.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external College constituencies.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to achieve high levels of customer service.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to exercise tact, discretion and confidentiality and to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Attention to detail and highly effective planning, organizing and managing skills are a must.
Ability to mobilize organizational resources in order to achieve objectives.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a systems mindset.

Technological proficiency with web applications, MS Office, Learning Management System and Student Information Systems.
Salary Range – Prorated based on FTE
$88,475 – $117,967 – $135,662 annualized (Pay Grid 13). Normal starting salary placement is between $88,475 and $117,967. Compensation beyond the control/mid-point requires approval by the Public Sector Employer’s Council Secretariat (PSEC).
