Vertex offers a modern, company owned and maintained, fleet of haulers, vacuum, hydro-vac, pressure, water, steam trucks, chemical units and industrial cleaning equipment, capable of meeting all drilling, production, turnaround, plant and completion needs of our clients.
Vertex is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Controller in Sherwood Park. The successful candidate must have relevant accounting and industry experience with an eye for detail. The Assistant Controller is directly responsible for providing financial and operational expertise, leadership and support. This position will be mainly responsible for playing a key role in assisting the Controller in all reporting and financial functions, supervision and training of accounting staff, support of various directives, and process improvement opportunities.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree or relevant post-secondary education
Must have a designation or working towards
2 plus years’ experience as an Assistant Controller
2 plus years’ experience in a transportation and logistics industry is an asset
5 plus years’ supervising and training an accounting team
Above average computer technical skills
The ability to seek out information in a large amount of data
Strong knowledge in financial, operational and cost reporting and analysis
Experienced in budgeting, forecasting and business process’
Strongly proficient with Accounting software; especially in Word and Excel
Proficient in asset utilization and a key driver of process improvement
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
Highly organized and self-motivated
Ability to develop, nurture and maintain strong relationships with vendors, agencies and various internal stakeholders
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the delivery of accurate and timely financial and operational reports
Assist the Controller month end, journal entries, reconciliations and financial statement preparation
Assist the Controller to provide business analysis from data converted to information that allows key stakeholders to make strategic business decisions
Assist with the year-end audit process
Assist with data mining to find useful and important information
Analyze data and report to management
Oversee of monthly project accounting costing details and reporting
Budgeting, forecasting and support of operational planning processes
Work with the Controller on improvement initiatives around internal system processes and controls in order to streamline and reduce inefficiencies of financial processes
Assist in the documentation and implementation of internal controls to ensure consistency of policies and procedures
Facilitate the training development of direct and indirect reports through the provision of continuous coaching and mentoring
Other related responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time
