Senior Embryologist (Full time)

Job Description / Duties

The senior embryologist is responsible for the proper handling of gametes and embryos using assisted reproductive techniques. The duties of senior embryologist are included but not limited to:

• Intra-uterine Insemination (IUI), Donor Insemination (DI), In vitro fertilization (IVF), Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), Embryo grading and selection for embryo transfer (ET).
• Cryopreservation and thawing of the embryos and gametes.
• Proper documentation of procedures.
• Entering results in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Assist in training of new employee.

Responsibilities:

• Ensures that all technical procedures are carried out according to the Laboratory’s standard operating procedures
• Ensure the correct identification of specimens and convey any irregularities to the Laboratory Director
• Record data on tests/procedures in a clear and concise way
• Conveys any significant abnormal test results to the Laboratory Director
• Ensure that an adequate inventory of reagents, media and lab supplies are ready at all times to perform procedures
• Uses all laboratory equipment according to laboratory protocols and guidelines and reports or repairs actual or potential malfunctions immediately
• Become familiar with all new or revised standard operation procedures as they become available by regular review of the Laboratory Manual;
• Assists in training new staff
• Participates in safety programs within the clinic
• Maintains up-to-date quality assurance records for tests and procedures performed in the Laboratory
• Participates in continuing education through attending outside meetings and symposia

Qualifications / Required Skills

• Well-developed problem-solving skills
• Ability to work under minimal supervision
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in human IVF
• Experience in Blastocyst biopsy is preferred
• Availability to work weekends and holidays on an as needed basis
• BSc or MSc in Biological or Reproductive Sciences.
