The office of Julie Dzerowicz, Member of Parliament for Davenport, is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Constituency Assistant – Communications & Social Media role.
Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Constituency Assistant- Communications & Social Media role provides a wide range of communications, social media, web site and project coordination support services.
The incumbent is responsible for handling all communications on behalf of the Member and works with other members of the team to provide excellent service to the Member’s constituents and to support the Member’s constituency and parliamentary work. The incumbent is a key operational strategist in advancing and facilitating the Member’s main objectives and priorities through social media, communications, events planning, outreach, and other strategic activities.
Duties and responsibilities
- Create and manage content, including videos for the Member’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media accounts;
- Plan and implement an effective communication strategy
- Develop bi-weekly email updates, quarterly Member newsletters and regular localized 2-page mail-outs
- Manage and maintain the Member’s website, ensuring regular updates and implementation of enhancements as needed
- Maintain and continually improve an effective media monitoring system to maximize the Member’s opportunities for communications exposure;
- Build and maintain good relationships with the media, coordinate interviews, and prepare media lines;
- Maintains and continually improves an effective media monitoring system to maximize the Member’s opportunities for exposure;
- Prepare news releases and organize media events;
- Drafts speeches for the Member to deliver at community events and in the House of Commons, as well as tracks and logs public appearances;
- Monitors Parliament and other government legislatures and bodies for upcoming motions, debates, and statements;
- Attends events and meetings with Member as requested as aide, as photographer, or other role as needed, and responsible for proper follow-up on any action items;
- Obtains, edits, and organizes photos and video footage of MP and community activities;
- Formats complex documents and templates including presentations, reports, memos, forms, and minutes for distribution to internal and external clients;
- Performs other related duties within the scope of the position.
Qualifications
- University degree or post-secondary education from a recognized institution in communications, journalism or a related field, combined with experience in communications involving large projects and working with senior management OR an acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience;
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in an office setting providing communications and media support;
- Superior written and verbal communications skills.
- Experience drafting documents and fact-checking information
- Experience in drafting material and posting material for social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter;
- Ability to research, analyze and synthesize complex findings within a short time frame;
- Ability to establish and manage multiple priorities, meet strict deadlines, and work independently to efficiently manage multiple and concurrent projects in a high‑stress environment.

- Experience volunteering for a political organization (Federal, Provincial, Municipal, or other)

Schedule: Full time (37.5 hours). Flexible hours required, including occasional long hours and some weekends.
