The Facilities and Safety Manager is responsible for managing a broad scope of daily buildings operations tasks, repairs and projects such as plumbing, electrical, renovations, furniture, lighting, temperature control, waste, cleaning services and pest control through contractors, vendors and external support services. As the first point of contact for facility and maintenance issues, the Facilities Manager will manage the facilities both inside and out, resolving issues, allocating resources, managing contractors, vendors and contracts. The Manager will also be responsible for conducting property inspections, building security, and participating in staff health and safety initiatives.
A day in the life of a Facilities Manager:
Facilities Maintenance & Management
Perform maintenance and repairs on forklifts as needed.
Perform on maintenance and repairs garage door/dock leveler as needed.
Oversee and direct construction and renovation projects. The Facilities Manager will also be called to perform basic repairs.
Plan the negotiation of facilities related contracts and actively participate in these negotiations. Coordinate the signing of contracts with third parties for facility-related services, such as cleaning, building maintenance and other facilities management services, and oversee the work to verify that the contracts are respected; develop action plans that guarantee the quality of the execution of the work.
Monitor ongoing building operations and collaborate with the staff and other departments to identify and address facilities-related issues. Regularly perform inspections of the facilities.
Keep senior management informed of status of projects and consult with senior management about aspects of projects as needed. Ensure that objectives and projects are met, completed on budget, and on time. Maintain records of work completed. Follow established project management methodology. Write communications regarding progress of projects.
Create and maintain Facilities & Maintenance processes and protocols
Assists in the development of the facilities budget and implements preventive maintenance programs within allocated budgets.
Develop, generate and present regular reports and reviews of facility issues.
Coordinate seasonal removal of snow and de-ice, stairs, sidewalks, entryways
Liaise with real estate broker as necessary to coordinate repairs and to enforce tenant/building obligations
Collaborate with Hasbro’s Corporate Facilities Team and other departments regarding renovations and repairs as well as the upgrading of the facility.
Safety and security
Respond to facility alarms and system issues and failures.
Serve as safety and security officer by implementing safety and security measures as a partner to the health and safety committee
Maintain and test the building evacuation plan, train those responsible for evacuating the building and liaising with the fire department.
What you’ll bring:
Post-secondary education with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive management experience in warehouse and building maintenance, preferably in an institutional setting of 100,000 sq. ft. or larger and significant experience in the field of facilities management and/or construction.
Advanced knowledge of Forklift maintenance and repairs
Solid knowledge of doors and docks maintenance and repairs
Experience and basic knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, heating, lighting and electrical systems
Sound knowledge of applicable building, fire and safety codes, acts, and regulations
Ability to review construction documents including drawings, specifications, estimates, and schedules.
Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel
English and French spoken and written
Ability to handle emergencies calmly
Leadership experience and/or experience managing contractors
Must be able to comfortably lift 30lbs
Ability to operate in a fast paced, changing environment with shifting priorities
Superior analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work with a sense of urgency
Ability to coordinate projects, timelines and resources for multiple deliverables
Ability to work off hours (evenings and weekends) on occasion
