Our Content Strategy team is seeking candidates for the role of Editor. The Editor helps edit and review Conference Board of Canada outputs. The primary responsibilities are to edit reports and other written material for both print and web for clarity, clear writing and the proper application of the Conference Board style guide. Main tasks include editing, quality control, writing, and advising researchers on questions of style, grammar, etc.
Our Ideal Candidate is…. passionate for the written word with expertise in editing, repurposing text, proofreading and quality control. We are looking for a relationship builder, who possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills in order to work closely with Conference Board researchers and economists and Content Strategy team members.
We are a virtual organization and as a remote worker you must be comfortable and able to work 100 per cent of the time from a home office. To be successful as a remote worker you need to have a self-starter attitude, possess strong organizational and time management skills, and be a proactive communicator. Having a home office environment that provides for a productive, professional, and safe work environment during regular working/business hours is a requirement of this role.
About the Role
Some of the things you will do every day:
Review and edit research reports for clarity, proper grammar and proper application of the Conference Board style
Work with researchers and economists on questions of English style, grammar, etc.
Provide technical support to production on editing, charting, and data questions, as well as for Excel chart issues
Application of the new Conference Board of Canada brand writing guidance
Conduct writing support training sessions as required for authors
Maintains own skill set and looks for opportunities to acquire new skills
Commitment to producing high quality work and demonstrating professional values in all aspects of work and interactions with colleagues and customers.
About You
Required Skills and Qualifications:
A minimum of three years’ working experience in editing, proofreading, or other related disciplines, preferably in a production, publishing, or agency environment
Post-secondary education in a related field, such as editing, mass communications and/or journalism
Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian grammar and typography rules
Familiarity with academic publishing, including citation and reference requirements is an asset
Familiarity with website content management systems and reference management systems is an asset
Self-starter with a strong work ethic, ability to respond quickly to changing priorities and meet deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Very well organized and able to handle multiple projects and production deadlines
Accurate, with excellent attention to detail
An effective and collaborative team player
Proficient in publishing and office technologies: MS Office
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and speed
Availability to work overtime if and when needed
Bilingualism is an asset.
