RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Focus:
– Lots of time on cash flow and reconciliations;
– Monthly tax filings for 5 provinces;
– Journal entries;
– Cash management and cash flow;
– Huge focus on reconciliations;
– Payroll 2X/month (mostly based in Ontario and 4 other provinces);
– Minimal accounts payable;
– Lease renewals for 14 locations across Canada (mostly Ontario).
From the formal job description:
– Perform bank reconciliations to General Ledger, investigate and resolve discrepancies and assist with cash management activities as required;
– Prepare monthly tax filings for provincial and federal governments;
– Analyze PST exempt and discount transactions, and identify and follow up discrepancies with the Director of Retail Sales and Operations;
– Assist in the preparation and posting of journal entries and perform account analyses;
– Oversee and assist with biweekly payroll processing and perform data verification to ensure wage and commission payment accuracy; act as a backup to the Payroll Coordinator in the event of absence;
– Verify the accuracy of calculation, accrual and reconciliation of month-end payroll accruals and related payroll and benefit accounting activities;
– Assist with year-end payroll-related activities and T4 preparation;
– Process accounts payable invoices, ensuring proper backup, authorization and payment terms adherence.
Important Details:
– Year-end is June;
– Peak season is from September to February;
– Great Plains is the accounting software and they will train.
QUALIFICATIONS
– 3 to 5 years of relevant full-cycle accounting experience working in a small-to-medium-size entrepreneurial business with a focus on account reconciliations, payroll, and cash accounting; previous retail exposure an asset;
– Proficient computer skills with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and V-lookups; knowledge of macros is an asset; – testing will be done by the employer to confirm your Excel abilities;
Important Details:
– Seeking a grasp of what payroll looks like in multiple provinces but if you only have hands-on experience with Ontario payroll for legislation and processing, that is acceptable.
