MacEwan University Looking for Educational Developer at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Full Time

MacEwan University is seeking an Educational Developer for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Centre for Teaching and Learning. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Teaching and Learning, you will provide pedagogical expertise and advisory services, support mixed modes of learning through your knowledge of learning theories, instructional strategies, educational technologies, research processes, and instructional design, and engage with institutional systems and processes, planning and/or just-in-time delivery of programs for strategic university teaching and learning development.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Guiding, advising, and teaching faculty to develop effective innovative pedagogical practices through individual and group consultations, workshops, and other programs;
• Consulting with deans, chairs, and faculty members about their teaching and learning needs to develop appropriate supports;
• Researching and implementing best practices for the design and creation of educational materials;
• Guiding and supporting faculty through personalized feedback and advice regarding their teaching and learning practices in the form of peer observations, online course evaluations, and other forms of formative feedback;
• Collaborating with staff and faculty to deliver relevant and timely teaching and learning support;
• Evaluating the effectiveness of the Centre’s programming, initiatives, projects, services, and educational materials;
• Initiating, developing, and supporting initiatives such as learning communities, special events, and micro-credentials;
• Working independently as a designer, co-designer, or project manager on teaching and learning development initiatives for curriculum, program, course and non-traditional learning activities;
• Participating in external networks to share information and ideas;
• Disseminating research results;
• Maintaining currency with research in educational development and related fields through active participation in workshops, symposia, conferences, and engagement with the literature;
• Maintaining currency through self-directed research in teaching and learning to inform decision-making and contribute to knowledge creation in educational development and/or teaching and learning in post-secondary education;
• Initiating, developing, and participating in activities that support the field of educational development;
• Creating documents, guides, discussion papers, and reports used by instructors and senior leaders to inform their decision making;
• Instructing faculty members in defining learning objectives and outcomes, curriculum mapping, curriculum design and devising effective assessment strategies
• Designing, implementing, delivering, and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives and professional development programs to address identified needs based on an evidence-informed approach to educational development; and
• Designing data collection instruments and collecting and analyzing data to continually improve the Centre’s offerings, curriculum review processes, and/or classroom practices.

Skills

You Will Have

• The ability to work both independently and in a team environment;
• The ability to support faculty at various levels of educational development and present and facilitate meetings, workshops, and other events;
• Confidence working with a range of digital technologies related to teaching, learning, and productivity, and the ability to demonstrate their use to others;
• The ability to maintain currency in educational research;
• The ability to author documents and/or other instructional resources (e.g., videos, infographics, etc.) to support faculty use of pedagogical and technological innovations, which may include published and/or public work, or work that is designed for institutional use; and
• The ability to support faculty who need information about, or assistance with, various practices associated with the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Med, MA, MSc).
• A minimum of 4 years of experience teaching, preferably at a post-secondary level, and in more than one format (i.e., face-to-face instruction, online, blended/hybrid).
• Experience supporting the development of other instructors regarding pedagogy, course design, and/or personal and technological skills that support course delivery.
• Experience providing course/instructional design at the post-secondary level is an asset.
• Experience in assessment and generative AI is an asset.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
