Dawn Staffing Solutions Inc Looking for Packaging Engineering at Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Full Time

As a Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of packaging solutions tailored specifically for automotive components and systems. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective packaging of automotive parts throughout the supply chain, from manufacturing facilities to end customers. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product design, manufacturing, logistics, and procurement to optimize packaging designs and processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Packaging Design and Development:
• Develop packaging solutions for various automotive components such as engine parts, electrical systems, interiors, and exterior body parts.
• Utilize CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software to create detailed packaging designs that meet functional requirements, considering factors such as product protection, space utilization, and transportation constraints.
• Coordinate development of prototype packaging using appropriate materials such as folding cartons, plastic or foil, stretch wrap, foam and appropriate corrugated or other form of shipping container.
• Coordinate and design and development of packaging solutions for cost effective shipping of WIP and finished products
• Material Selection and Testing:
• Identify suitable packaging materials based on product characteristics, environmental factors, and transportation requirements.
• Conduct material testing and evaluation to assess durability, impact resistance, and environmental sustainability.
• Collaborate with suppliers to source high-quality packaging materials at optimal costs.
• Cost Optimization:
• Work closely with procurement teams to identify cost-effective packaging solutions without compromising product integrity or safety.
• Conduct packaging cost analyses and implement strategies to reduce packaging expenses while maintaining quality standards.
• Implement lean packaging practices to minimize waste and improve efficiency.
• Supply Chain Integration:
• Collaborate with logistics teams to develop packaging solutions that streamline transportation, storage, and handling processes.
• Optimize packaging configurations to maximize space utilization in warehouses and shipping containers.
• Implement RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) and other tracking technologies to improve visibility and traceability of packaged products throughout the supply chain.
• Continuous Improvement:
• Monitor packaging performance metrics such as damage rates, transportation costs, and cycle times.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and packaging optimization through data analysis and feedback from stakeholders.
• Lead cross-functional teams in implementing packaging enhancements and resolving packaging-related issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• Proven experience in Spinfire and CAD is an asset.
• Proficiency in CAD software for packaging design (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and supply chain logistics.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to automotive packaging (e.g., ISTA, ASTM).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration abilities to work across functional teams and external suppliers.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
