Actalent Looking for Sr. Distribution Designer at New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada Full Time

A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations focused on Infrastructure and Utilities projects. To support this growth, we have opened a full-time position for a Sr. Distribution Designer to join our team. The selected individual will be a part of our Utilities Division and will be a member of our New Westminster, BC.

The selected individual will join our rapidly growing team delivering projects to a variety of utility clients (inclusive of BC Hydro) with a focus on electrical utility infrastructure. We are looking for people that take ownership, are career motivated, well organized and detail oriented with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Key activities include liaising with project stakeholders, acting as primary constructability reviewer, completing project designs and performing quality assurance functions. Successfully passing Drug & Alcohol Screening is a requirement for this role.

• Qualifications and Experience: *
• Minimum of Technology Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems/Electrical Power Option (or extensive experience in Distribution Design)
• A minimum of 6 years related work experience including five (5) years in power utility underground (UG) and overhead (OH) electrical design on BC Hydro Distribution Projects
• A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Proficient using MS Office and AutoCAD software
• Considered an asset: *
• Formal Design Leadership and/or Project Management experience will be considered an asset
• Experience in utility substation or industrial electrical design will be considered an asset
• Job Responsibilities: *
• Design underground (UG) and overhead (OH) electrical power infrastructure according to BC Hydro standards
• Providing oversight and acting as primary constructability reviewer for our OH and UG designs.
• Providing technical and design leadership for both standard and complex designs.
• Attend project meetings and conduct site inspections and reviews, approximately 10% of the time will be out of the office.
• Use SPIDAcalc non-linear pole line analysis tool to evaluate pole design and create non-standard OH Line design solutions.
• Use of underground cable pulling calculation software to confirm design solutions.
• Use load balancing and fuse coordination software for distribution system improvement projects.
• Provide design for any non-standard/engineered solutions.
• Prepare design packages for review and submission. Packages to be provided for Pole Replacement/Maintenance, LPT/PMT/Livefront, Feeder Design, Smart Meter, Customer Driven 3rd Party Attachments, Automation and other BC Hydro Programs.
• Coordinating with clients, co-workers, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders.
• Carry out research on property boundary and prepare easement requests.
• Obtain permits from the appropriate authorities (municipal, MOTI, etc.).
• Prepare issue for construction packages.
• Attend project meetings.
• Participates in short- and long-range planning for personnel requirements and pursuit of client assignments.
