Job Description:
Boart Longyear is an integrated drilling services and drilling products provider, producing, manufacturing and operating equipment for the minerals industry, with a drilling presence in water exploration, environmental sampling, energy and oil sands exploration. We are currently seeking a self-motivated Design Engineer to fill a position that will be based in our Mississauga, Ontario office. This position is a full-time role and hours of work will be 8:00am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following):
As the successful Design Engineer, responsibilities will include product testing, lab maintenance, prototype builds, detail design and drafting, and general technical product support. Boart Longyear is committed to high quality, safety, environmental and continuous improvement practices. Applicants should be able to demonstrate shared values in this area. Responsibilities for the Design Engineer include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide CAD/Engineering documentation and carry out product development activities in support of the Performance Tooling product line.
Under the direction of the Mississauga Engineering Team Lead, activities may include product testing, lab maintenance, prototype builds, detail design and drafting, and general technical product support.
Work effectively in a team environment interacting with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, sourcing engineers and suppliers, product line managers, and internal drilling services.
Develop designs for new products and participate in the continuous improvement of current products
Document designs and specifications including 3D modeling, manufacturing drawings, process specifications, DFMEA and KPC development
Lead lab maintenance and upgrade activities
Conduct in-house/onsite product testing and complete detailed test reports
Coordinate prototype builds ensuring component/assembly compliance to specifications
Preparation of technical details for sales inquiries, manufacturing and marketing literature
Manage and complete work against fixed timelines
Other tasks as assigned
Required Qualifications:
BS Mechanical Engineering
2+ years of directly related work experience
English language proficiency (written and spoken)
Results oriented
Flexible to occasional travel including international travel
Preferred experience:
Design and processing of metal components in complex assemblies
Materials, thermal and surface treatments
3D modeling and FEA experience
Drawing standards, geometric tolerancing, tolerance stacking, DFMEA and KPC development.
Laboratory and/or heavy equipmentset-up and operation
Education and Experience:
BS Mechanical Engineering
2+ years of directly related work experience
The successful candidate must also be able to handle responsibility and the pressure of meeting deadlines.
Reporting Relationship
The position reports directly to the Senior Manager TruTools Products Management, who is located in Mississauga, Ontario.
