Position: Financial Controller
Type: Full Time and Project
Location: Edmonton Region

The Financial Controller will provide professional financial leadership support to all facets of the company to ensure accurate financial management. The successful candidate will have the exceptional ability to provide leadership and coordination of company financial planning, financing, and budget management functions while ensuring company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for timely and accurate billing and collections.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate accounts payable transactions processing.
  • Ensures all payroll activities are in compliance with company policies and procedures and government regulations.
  • Accountable for timely and accurate monthly financial statements.
  • Effectively administrates NAV and designs proper system controls.
  • Supports site operations and other operational needs as required.
  • Accountable for effectively managing direct reports and building up a strong team.
  • Must take reasonable care for own health and safety, as well as the health and safety of others who may be affected by your behavior. The team member is expected to review and follow all policies, and actively participate and promote all Bouchier and site safety processes and efforts always.
  • Prepares annual budgets.
  • Generates accurate and timely monthly financial statements.
  • Manages full cycle accounting function which includes, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Develops, implements, and manages system and internal control risks.
  • Monitors company leading indicators, namely non-billable time, and equipment utilization.
  • Leads year end audit.
  • Works with Procurement to ensure PO management is maintained.
  • Works with Project Controllers and Site Coordinators to ensure POs are created accurately, with proper approvals and managed with regards to receiving and closing out
  • Support sites and other departments as needed.
  • Coaches, trains, and supports direct reports.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, Master’s degree an asset, CPA preferred.
  • 10+ year experience in senior finance roles.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics NAVISION an asset.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial financial regulations.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Working knowledge of short and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and profitability analysis.
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
  • Must be an Excel Master User. Strong financial modelling skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • All applicants must have the ability to speak, read and write fluently in English.
  • This position requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule when necessary.
