At Campbell River Christian School, Special Education Assistants are para-professionals who work closely with teachers to support the educational/academic, spiritual, and character development of students on Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), some of whom receive government funding to support their programming. SEAs receive their assignments from the Special Education Director and directly report to the classroom teacher with whom they are working.
Presently, CRCS is seeking a candidate to cover a maternity leave beginning mid-February. This is a temporary, full-time position that will continue to the end of the 2022-2023 school year and possibly go into the 2023-2024 school year. The ideal candidate will likely work with students in Gr.8-12 but should be flexible and prepared to work with students in younger grades (K-7), too. The hours are 8am-3pm, Monday to Friday. Remuneration is on a grid system based on training, qualifications, and experience.
The ideal SEA skills and duties include but are not limited to the following:
Evidence of a strong understanding of Christian education
Willingness to uphold CRCS’s and ACSI’s (Assoc.Christian Schools International) Statements of Faith
Possession of an Educational Assistant certificate or in the process of obtaining one. (Candidates without an Educational Assistant certificate but who are willing to take educational assistant courses may also be considered.)
Strong communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Adaptable, flexible, with a “can-do” attitude
Ability to meet and plan with the classroom teacher(s) on a regular basis
Ability to implement tasks and oversee instructional practices programmed by the designated teacher(s)
Supporting student(s) and regularly communicating with the classroom teacher(s) and SPED Director
Praying regularly for the student(s) and their family/families and participating in staff prayer meetings
Reinforcing or following up on assignments with the student(s)
Keeping accurate student records
Attending Staff, SPED, or Parent meetings as required
Other responsibilities as assigned by the SPED Director or Vice-Principal or Principal
Interested candidates are encouraged to send a cover letter, résumé, their personal statement of faith, evidence of any certification or special training, and 3 references including a pastoral/church reference to Bérénice MacKenzie at [email protected]. This posting will remain open until this temporary SEA position has been filled. CRCS thanks all those who are interested in this position; however, only short-listed candidates will be contacted for a possible interview.
