What you’ll do
The Team Lead will lead a group of planners and analyst in a variety of planning, execution, and analytical tasks. You will oversee all events necessary to effectively manage the transportation of import ocean containers from the Ports in Vancouver, Halifax, and Prince Rupert to CTC’s transload facilities. The team lead position helps to manage various challenges and opportunities that come with the complexity and nuances of Canada’s gateways for ocean imports. The Team lead will also oversee the planning and coordination of transportation requirements for export shipments associated with our Vancouver area customer base. In addition, they are responsible for managing third party service providers relationships to ensure transportation requirements are met and run efficiently.
You will be responsible for supporting all daily activities. Including participating in the hiring of new employees, support the training and development of individual team members, and participate in completing annual performance reviews and assessments.
Ensure the smooth and timely execution of process flows and programs
Communicate and interact with the International Transportation team, increasing synergies and efficiencies between drayage and transload operations.
Communicate with drayage partners, exporters, ports, and off dock container yards to establish new and innovative ways to improve drayage operations.
Supervise a team of two business analyst, two operations planners and 4 dispatchers that manage third party drivers and chassis fleet.
Suggest, develop, and implement process improvements
Manage and maintain relationships with third party service providers to balance the flow of containers, chassis, and all drayage activities.
Identify cost control and areas of potential savings.
Identify and develop new opportunities within the local market.
Develop and maintain triangulation opportunities.
Be familiar with policies and continually promotes and supports the companies code of conduct and vision.
Coordinates cross-functional initiatives to support Transportation annual objectives.
Manage the teams vacation calendar and payroll.
Participate in daily planning to support operations and increase efficiency initiatives.
Manages invoice in COUPA.
Reviews opportunities to onboard new Dispatch/Planning system.
Works with Fleet Services to source and maintain GPS for CTC Chassis Fleet.
What you bring
5 – 6 years experience within the logistics or transportation fields.
Post secondary education with preference given to candidates with degrees/diplomas within the logistics or transportation fields.
Experience in Retail Distribution, 3PL and Federal/Provincial operation regulations.
Familiar with the processes involved associated with importation and exportation of goods in/out of Canada.
Good understanding of marine, trucking, and rail industries as well as port terminal reservation
Port experience also an asset.
Proficient skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point and Access)
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Ability to prioritize work and meet tight deadlines.
Demonstrated time management skills (eg meeting project deadlines)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Action oriented and takes initiative to resolve issues in a professional manner and to follow up on expediting efforts while maintaining relationships.
Must be able to motivate team members, drive change and maintain a positive environment in an area that experiences frequently challenges and change (both system and process)
Positive attitude and demeanor, ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
Delegation skills for both workload sharing and team development perspectives.
