Durham Continuing Education is the Durham District School Board’s program for its adult daytime program as well as many continuing education programs. While the core business of Continuing Education is funded by the Ministry of Education, partnerships with MLTSD, IRCC, MCI and MCSS support Continuing Education programming.
In addition to daytime secondary credit programming for students 21 years of age and over, Durham Continuing Education offers the following scope of services and service delivery channels: Adult literacy and upgrading; Computer training; Document evaluation service; eLearning credit program for adults; Elementary & secondary international language classes; Elementary & secondary summer school; English as a Second Language (ESL) for adults; Focus for Future credit program for young parents; Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC); Learn-at-Home credit correspondence; Night school credit; North Durham – credit program; Pathway and cooperative education credit programs; Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR).

Durham Continuing Education’s Personal Support Worker (PSW) program is a two-term (5 month) certificate program, offering up to 7 high-school credits, if needed. This program is delivered through a classroom theory component and clinical placement experience.
Applications are being accepted from qualified teachers for a full-time hourly paid contract (non-permanent) teaching position for:
Personal Support Worker Program
From February 1, 2023 – June 28, 2023. The successful candidate will be provided with an earlier contract for onboarding and training purposes.
Full-time 5 day a week daytime program runs approximately 37.5 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
Duties include teaching healthcare and medical technologies curriculum for adult credit and PSW certification program. Monitoring of students at during cooperative education placements also required.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have teaching qualifications and be in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers and have Ontario College of Nurses Registration.
Cooperative Education qualifications is an asset.
Preference will be given to candidates with expertise and experience delivering Ontario Long Term Care Association Personal Support Worker curriculum.
A criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening is a condition of employment. Proof of immunizations as per the Long Term Care Homes Act are required prior to the clinical practicums.

Our school operates on 4 term sessions with new courses being offered every 9 weeks. We offer a morning class from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and an afternoon class from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers qualifications.
Experience in teaching adults is preferred.
