Seeking a private personal companion/caregiver for a healthy, English speaking, elderly Chinese couple who live SW of the city about 10 minutes west of West Springs.
Companion/caregiver will provide a variety of non-medical duties with respect, patience, compassion, integrity, consistency, reliability and accountability. Light housekeeping, cleaning and linen/laundry will be required. However, NO personal care services are required (e.g. bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, cooking, or feeding).
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to carry out directions, read, write and speak English CLEARLY.
2. Ability to effectively communicate with the elderly (hard of hearing and slowing mental ability).
3. Speaking Cantonese will be an asset but not required.
4. Previous personal or educational experience with the elderly.
5. Post-secondary education/training/experience in the social or health sciences an asset.
6. Maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
7. Understands the unique needs and challenges of the elderly population.
8. Proof of COVID Vaccination and Booster
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide companionship with conversation, music, crafts or activities (but NO television).
2. Walk (inside and outside depending on weather) and lead a prescribed exercise program with the couple as assigned.
3. Perform light housecleaning duties in kitchen and washroom (NO vacuuming)
4. Occasionally assist with changing bed linens and laundry.
5. Potentially drive with and accompany couple to short grocery shopping trips, activities, or events – mileage reimbursed at $0.65/km while driving your own car.
6. Recognize, record and report any changes in physical condition, behavior, appearance and/or medical needs if they arise.
7.Document visit records/services delivered in provided notebook.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
* Holds the minimum education, experience, and skills to perform responsibilities.
* Must have a clean Criminal Background/Vulnerable Sector Search current within the last 3 months prior to start date.
* Must have and continue a clean Driving Record showing 3pts or less with a reliable vehicle.
* First Aid/CPR training within the 12 months.
* Ability to lift, push or pull 20 pounds
* Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, and reach
Pay: $17-$19 per hour.
* Hours are flexible but will be approximately two half days per week with potential for hours to increase.
