Payroll Coordinator

HLMS is currently looking to hire an energetic payroll professional to run our payroll operations.
Responsibilities:
Manages two payrolls, and time tracking systems, including reconciliation, and reporting.
Coordinates department workload and maintains the monthly work calendar which includes ensuring timely payment, reporting of payroll withholdings and preparing remittances.
Ensures accurate accounting and reporting on all payroll related feeds to finance. Monitors and updates payroll department/process procedures and contributes to development of college-wide payroll related policies and procedures.
Partners with the Finance Department to provide payroll related GL and adjustment entries.
Completes quarterly and yearly tax filings, T4s, and other tax forms. Stays current, complies with and provides interpretations on various rules, regulations, laws, contracts and policies. May work with government agencies, benefit providers, auditors and/or other staff to resolve problems and provide requested information.
Responsible for WSIB payments, EHT, OHRS, staff donations, RRSP, pension, union dues, SUB plans, ROEs, and step increases.
Works with the benefits provider to remit and reconcile group health benefits costs.
Coordinates, develops and maintains written documentation regarding payroll procedures and processes necessary for reference and training materials.
Provides timely responses to payroll queries and implement best practice across senior leadership, managers, and employees.
Ensures all remittances and reconciliations are performed accurately and on time.
Special projects as required.
Experience and skills
Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, payroll taxes, reporting, year-end, and reconciliation.
Payroll designation and university degree, or equivalent experience.
Operational capability on payroll systems with preference given to applicants with experience with Deluxe, Advancedtracker, and BambooHR.
Extremely detailed, ability to drive process, high accountability for outcomes.
Demonstrated experience, understanding and application of Employment Standards.
Knowledge and experience working with finance and providing reporting requirements.
Possess knowledge of housing and mental health issues.
Strong financial acumen, experience with Excel.
Ability to communicate and interact in a positive and respectful way with individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities;
