Who is March of Dimes Canada?
From our humble beginnings in 1951 as a group of mothers going door-to-door collecting dimes in support of polio research, March of Dimes Canada has grown into a national, multi-service not-for-profit organization. We work for people with disabilities and seniors, helping them with daily living, rehabilitation and employment.
What does the Community Support Services team do?
Our Community Support Services team, which is primarily funded by governments, provides essential services that enable people to live as independently as possible. Whether the disability is physical, cognitive or the result of brain injury or aging, our team of 1,600 employees assists people in their homes and communities, helping them gain a greater level of functioning and connection with others. Over the past year, the number of people we serve rose to more than 6,100 people.
This Opportunity
We are currently looking to fill full time Senior Brain Injury Workers for Brain Injury Services Outreach Program within York Region.
The hours are 9:00 am to 4:30 Monday to Friday.
Duties include the following:
Provide one to one support and group support within the home and community to adults with brain injury
Develop, coordinate and implement the delivery of specific services within various settings and the community
Reporting responsibilities (incident reports, behavioral data collection, verbal reports and progress reports)
Liaise with other social services agencies and health care providers
Develop and implement day service intervention and various life skill/social workshops
Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of treatment programs; develop and track outcome measures
Communicate with client, family, and team members
Assess client’s relevant skill strengths and development needs and conduct follow-up assessments
Access to vehicle, valid driver’s license, ability to travel daily with in York Region
Background / Qualifications:
Post-secondary preferred in Human and Social Services
Minimum of three years’ experience in Human Services field and/or working with people with ABI.
Experience with report writing an asset
Current CPR/First Aid an asset
Experience with group facilitation is an asset
Experience with Microsoft Office applications
Proven consistency in work performance, including teamwork, reliability and flexibility
Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
Demonstrated experience supervising or leading teams
Sound behavioral management skills, cognitive problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge of brain injury and cognitive rehabilitation is an asset
