About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Director of Human Resources/People Services, and working as a part of the leadership team, the People Services Director (NZ) provides strategic HR advice and client services on people services-related matters to senior leaders, managers and staff. The Director oversees a team at the zone level that is well-versed in all People Services – HR functional areas, and that delivers and executes the HR processes and policies in an integrated manner. The main HR functions, provided by a team of HR Business Partners, include recruitment advice, employee and labour relations, grievance management, mediation, conflict resolution, complaint investigation, coaching, attendance management, performance planning, compensation and benefits and occupational health, safety and wellness. The Director works in close collaboration with other Directors, consulting for specialized resources and expertise as required.
The Director provides leadership and supports strategies and operational plans that are consistent with legislation, accountability frameworks and the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The incumbent supports a provincially integrated process and contributes to the design and development of comprehensive human resource and organizational performance strategies and business practices to support the effective, efficient, and sustainable delivery of services and programs.
The Director ensures continuous improvement to advance a vision of excellence within his/her areas of responsibility and is accountable for the development, maintenance and monitoring of quality programs, and compliance with relevant legislation, standards and accreditation requirements. The Director facilitates and champions a learning and research environment that aligns with Nova Scotia Health, and works closely with education institutions, government, and other partners on the preparation of our health workforce.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
Bachelor’s degree in health, social science, business or public administration or related field
Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience in progressive leadership positions involved in planning and delivering comprehensive human resource services within a complex, integrated service model provided throughout several locations with multiple partners and stakeholders
Significant management experience and knowledge of all aspects of human resources management and workforce planning
Ability to assess organizational development / learning needs and implement and monitor programs on a continual basis
Experience as a strategic advisor and operational leader within a complex organization, enabling change.
Experience in engaging, mentoring and empowering teams and stakeholders
Experience in project management principles and implementation
Demonstrated knowledge of policy impact and development
Comfortable leading in a unionized context
Excellent negotiation and decision-making skills.
Ability to build engagement among peers and business leaders to support new strategies and change management
Experience working with diversity of staff and stakeholders, with knowledge of cultural competence, diversity and social inclusion
Ability to analyse and interpret statistical data, and monitor quality and performance indicators and benchmarks related to the workforce.
Sound knowledge of information systems and financial management
Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Permanent, Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
The location of this position is flexible within the Northern Zone
Compensation and Incentives
$50.56 – $63.20/Hourly
