OVERVIEW
The Accounting Manager leads the Guelph team, and plans and directs the activities for costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, taxes, and payroll. This role is the anticipated successor for the Controller, who is a key member of the plant leadership team, with overall responsibility for financial planning and analysis, cost accounting, general accounting, and integrity of reporting and internal control.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to achieve high performance through an inclusive and collaborative culture of continuous improvement.
Evaluate and make recommendations to accounting practices to improve their accuracy, effectiveness, and efficiency in line with organizational objectives.
Manage month-end and year-end activities, financial consolidation, and reporting requirements.
Oversee and perform general ledger activities and reconciliations.
Direct accounts payables and receivables including disbursement cheques, intercompany payments, and managing receivable balances.
Oversee & audit payroll, including general ledger posting, and exceptions.
Prepare and remit corporate tax returns and remit monthly tax installments.
Assist Controller with Federal/Provincial tax audits.
Manage cash resources including banking, inter-company requirements, and weekly forecasting.
Support the annual budget process.
Prepare data and G/L extracts and loading to group finance and the consolidation system.
Manage insurance coverage and prepare reports.
Complete Statistics Canada financial information surveys.
Prepare monthly HST returns.
Manage the year-end audit including coordination with external accountants, preparation, resourcing, and presentation of financial results.
Design and document standard operating procedures to strengthen internal processes, procedures, and controls.
Perform analysis of information and prepare reports as requested.
Partner with the corporate team on exceptions, improvements, site transactions, and support needs.
Other tasks and projects as needed.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
University degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.
Certified Public Accountant Designation (CPA).
5 years of progressive experience in accounting.
3 years of previous leadership experience in a similar role.
Previous experience in a public accounting firm is considered an asset.
A strong understanding of business functions including operations, supply chain, engineering, human resources, and information systems.
Strong knowledge of financial and ERP systems (SAP preferred).
Driven to execute with a sense of urgency.
Demonstrated skills in problem-solving with a solutions mindset.
An analytical approach with high accuracy and attention to detail.
A track record of having an inclusive and collaborative approach to change management and relationships across the organization and with customers.
A good understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement principles is an asset.
Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.
