Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Human Resources serves as a member of the senior leadership and shares accountability for advancing PLGB’s vision, mission, and strategic plan. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing HR strategy and should be able to simultaneously manage day-to-day operations of Human Resources within the agency including: full cycle recruitment, training and development, health and safety, labour relations and benefits/compensation administration in a unionized work environment.

Core Responsibilities:
· Development of departmental goals and objectives: aligns programs, projects and activities to facilitate achievement of established organizational goals.
· Manages day-to-day operations to meet departmental goals and priorities in full circle Recruitment, Training and development, Health and Safety, Disability program management and Employee benefits and Compensation management etc.
· Manage Labour relations including grievances, arbitrations and collective bargaining.
· Contributes to the development of a high performing team while ensuring service delivery aligns with the best Human Resources practices.
· Provides leadership to the management team on Employee/Labour relations matters, workforce planning, performance management, dispute resolution, grievance management, mediation, collective bargaining, and litigation matters.
· Lead transformational change and exploring innovative approaches to building human resources structures and practices.
· Develops and reviews agency wide Human Resources practices, policies and guidelines to ensure they are relevant and updated, develops and implements regular strategies for improvement.
· Management of HR related Quality Assurance Measures (QAM) and compliance.
Qualifications:
· University degree/Diploma in Human Resources, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· A minimum of 5 years experience, with 3 years in a senior human resource leadership role within a unionized environment, preferably within the social services/health sector.
· CHRP/CHRL designation required
· Proven experience with strategic HR planning, while maintaining a hands-on approach in ensuring effective day-to-day HR operations is essential.
· Demonstrated talent for building relationships, tact, and diplomacy to foster collaborative working relationships among management team members, agency staff, and union partners.
· Experience with the interpretation and application of Collective Agreements. Expertise in labour relations and the collective bargaining process.
· Experience with a solid understanding of HR best practices, policies and procedures including applicable legislation (e.g. ESA, OH&S, etc.)
· Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to form and defend independent judgement with the ability to influence others and outcomes.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills are key to support your work in a fast-paced healthcare, multi-union environment while managing, balancing competing priorities.
· Ability to deliver a strong vision of values-based, client centered service delivery model.
· A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
· Strong judgment and problem solving and decision-making skills.
· Outstanding communication (written and oral).
· A strict commitment to confidentiality, and to providing exemplary customer service is of the utmost importance.
· Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of MS Office products (word processing, spreadsheet, databases) and experience using an HRIS effectively.
· Initiative, and the ability to work effectively independently or in a team.
Type of Job:
Permanent full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Flexibility is required for occasional evening or weekend events/needs.
Location: Main Site, Holland Centre
Effective Date: As soon as possible
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience.
