Working with our school community members to support both students and educators so that everyone can be an actively engaged member of the classroom and the school as a whole, the areas of main responsibility will include;
Working collaboratively with school community to best meet the needs of students by identifying needs and work to provide the appropriate supports for students to work towards their potential
Working collaboratively with staff, family, and students to identify the function of behaviors and to then be able to address them to implement effective strategies for students
Ensuring effective management of student files that include developing meaningful Individual Education Plans for students’ success that act as an ongoing, effective communication tool in supporting our students in reaching their full potential
Providing support so that students can be meaningfully included as valued members of the classroom and school. This includes direct support to the students, peer support to other educators, and whole school initiatives.
Providing assessment for students who may require additional support and assisting classroom teachers with assessment as needed.
In collaboration with the Junior School Principal, the Inclusion Support Teacher will manage School resources including human resources (Education Assistants), materials, and equipment.
Providing direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment
Maintaining accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on students as required by BC Ministry of Education Special Education Funding requirements
Experience & Qualifications:
The following are requirements for this position:
Graduate of a recognized B.Ed program with an emphasis on Special Education
Proof of BC Ministry of Education Teacher Certification
Experience supporting students with diverse needs
Working knowledge of BC Ministry of Education Special Education Funding requirements
Experience in the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of IEPs in consultation with parents and learning team members
Excellent working knowledge of program modifications/adaptations, differentiated learning strategies, and progress monitoring/evaluation
Highly effective communication skills, both verbal and written
Experience, sensitivity and awareness of working within a multi-cultural environment
Willingness to embrace the ethos of an independent school and make a commitment to the extensive co-curricular life of an independent school
Preference will be given to candidates who also have the following skills and qualifications:
Level B testing qualifications
Standard First Aid certification or above
Valid driver’s license and clean driver abstract
