Senior Software Development Engineer (Server Side)
Location: Vancouver, Canada

About the Role:

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop applications, system-to-system interfaces and complete software solutions
• Implement solutions that meet performance, scaling and security goals
• Instrument services to provide insight into performance and emerging issues
• Manage servers across multiple environments and regions, deploy updates, migrate databases and build scalability and robustness solutions
• Guide architectural decisions and technical implementation topics
• Participate in design and code reviews
• Contribute to enhance the development process

Required Skills:

• Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in the development of server-side products, within a professional software development organization
• Strong experience in PHP development on server-side (microservices)
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Good in software design concepts, design patterns, algorithms and data structures

Preferred Optional Skills:

• Overall IT experience of 5-10 years
• Java experience would also be beneficial.
• Experience with building and managing software packages or server images
• Experience on public cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS and their tools. Exposure to AWS preferred.
• Experience working with cloud-based server environments
• Experience in managing Linux-based infrastructure
• Experience with RESTful web services, XML and JSON
• Experience in designing, and implementing scalable and resilient RESTful API services
• Experience in writing documentation and creating design diagrams
• Experience in managing servers, networks, and infrastructure with broad knowledge of the following: networking, servers, virtualization, security, availability, resiliency, redundancy, alerting, and monitoring
• Solid practitioner of the Agile/Scrum development process, with test-driven development, DevOps and continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD)
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Available to work in the PST timezone

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

• Mostly Office Environments, Occasional Shop Floor involvement.
• Substantial amounts of telephone and computer work.
• Heavily Regulated Industries with strict adherence to procedures.
• Flexibility to meet business deadlines by staying late or arriving early.
• Typical 8 hour days plus lunch / 40 hour weeks / core (required) hours are 9AM to 4PM
• Ability to use personal transportation to visit customer locations.
