POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the HR Business Partner – West, the HR Assistant is a generalist role largely performing a variety of professional HR services and support to the business, HR Manager and HR Business Partner including recruitment, hiring and retention efforts, conducting research (i.e., Labor Market Trends and Assessments, Engagement and other project work as assigned), HRIS (WD), preparing presentations, and other duties and projects as assigned. The candidate will have the flexibility to work from home for the duration of the contract. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruitment, Selection, and Onboarding Duties:
Assist in recruitment, selection, and retention initiatives, including working with hiring managers to draft job postings and descriptions, and assist in creating job req’s in Workday (WD), posting and cross-posting of approved job reqs, resume’ collection and screening, setting up and conducting initial interviews, scheduling manager interviews, completing reference checks, and initiating employment contracts through WD.
Proactively create the recruitment timelines for the different positions and assist in hiring and onboarding new hires.
Post positions collaboratively with the Hiring Manager, Recruitment Centre, Communications, and Human Resources.
Help develop interview guides and exercises and distribute them to interviewers.
Compile hiring materials and maintain all necessary forms, documents, and employee database, and physical records as required.
Work with the hiring managers and Human Resources to schedule onboarding activities including coordination of required Onboarding Documentation and distribution of swag materials.
Plan and assist in preparing and distributing documentation for new hire orientations and enrollments.
Assist the manager and candidate in completing the hiring process through WD, coordinate with the HRBP, HR Shared Services and assist with the provisioning of new staff with equipment if required.
Assist in HR recruitment-related project works as required including researching grants, career fairs, etc.
Occasional travel to Mill locations may be required.
Other Responsibilities: Admin, Research, Coordination, and Project Works
Assist the HR Manager and HRBP in developing, implementing, and applying programs, projects, policies, plans, and processes, including the Culture Champion Program.
Support in various HR-related activities and assist in project work as required including creating PowerPoint presentations, pulling reports and gathering data off HRIS (Workday), working on spreadsheets, conducting research and assisting in other special projects as assigned.
Support in various HR-related activities, research, and coordination of projects including Employee Wellness, Benefits & Pension, Health and Safety, Employee Recognition, Training, Development, Compliance, Employee Relations, and Performance Management.
Support in processing WCB/STD/LTD claims and claims management.
Other duties as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Post-secondary education from an accredited institution in Human Resources.
Minimum two (2) years of progressive experience in Human Resources; OR
A completed 1-year certificate in business administration; and at least 2 years of related experience.
Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word) and HRIS system Workday, ADP, Sun Life Sponsor Portal experience an asset.
Previous experience with recruitment, such as a recent human resources graduate, is considered an asset.
Success in this position requires effective customer service and teamwork skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong planning and organizing skills, and the ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy.
Possess well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills are essential to liaise with the entire current & future team.
Union and manufacturing experience or knowledge about Union and Production work-setting considered an asset.
Knowledge of HR programs, policies, and employment standards legislation.
Strong customer service, administrative, clerical, phone etiquette, and organizational skills are required.
Flexible, able to work in an evolving environment, and is open to change.
Demonstrates positive, helpful, pro-active, reliable, and can-do attitude.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full Time, 4-months Contract with extension or permanent employment possibilities.
