Job Overview
As part of Wawanesa’s Digital Strategy & Exploration team, the Exploration Practice Specialist works collaboratively with stakeholders to explore ideas and emerging technologies that create new opportunities and add value to our business, brokers, and policyholders.
In this role, you will execute on a broad spectrum of digital innovation projects in partnership with internal stakeholders from across the whole organization. Leveraging Wawanesa’s systematic Exploration process and toolkit, you will help to realize business strategy through clever problem solving and testing novel opportunities spanning products, services, customer experience, business models, technologies, and partnerships.
As Exploration Practice Specialist, you are passionate about innovation and have a knack for coordinating and coaching cross functional teams through an innovation process that connects new ideas with insights to help solve business problems.
Job Responsibilities
Under moderate supervision, facilitate initiatives through the systematic innovation process, from strategy to discovery and validation, while supporting project focused cross-functional teams.
Participate in the creation, execution and monitoring of innovation project plans and roadmaps, while ensuring clearly defined scope and problem focus with a direct connection to strategy and delivering business value.
Prepare and deliver compelling presentations and business artifacts that ensure the effective communication of learnings, track exploration outcomes, and promote openness and collaborative knowledge sharing across the organization.
Participate in the preparation and facilitation of workshops and experiments using established methodologies, frameworks, and tools (i.e., Innovation Engineering, Design Thinking, Business Model Canvas, etc.)
Evaluate the quality of innovation outputs and effective reduction of innovation risk through monitoring metrics, then contribute collaboratively to the continuous improvement and evolution of Wawanesa’s Exploration practice and processes.
Act as a subject matter expert on our Exploration process, passionately advocating for innovation and demonstrating new ways of thinking and problem solving.
Practice continuous learning and professional development, staying up to date on novel innovation focused research, emerging technologies, and the evolving industry landscape and trends.
Coordinate and participate in cross-functional team meetings to share critical information, establish work plans and business insights.
Oversee the maintenance and organization of business artifacts on the organization’s intranet, contributing to communication and knowledge sharing strategies.
Qualifications
Minimum three years’ combined experience working in innovation, digital transformation, or business analysis.
Completion of post-secondary degree/certificate or equivalent experience.
Functional knowledge of innovation methodologies, frameworks, and tools.
Strong facilitation and training skills to provide support and guidance to team members.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build mutually beneficial relationships, motivate cross functional teams, and execute on innovation goals.
Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to develop and implement plans by prioritizing and multitasking.
Experience in agile practices, Scrum, Kanban, and continuous delivery.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong communication skills, with experience in creating business presentations and documentation for consumption by senior leaders.
Innovation Engineering Blue Belt or Black Belt, Six Sigma, or Design Thinking certifications considered an asset.
Knowledge and experience in the insurance industry is considered an asset.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. SharePoint experience considered an asset.
