Vacant Position: 1.0 FTE Cornerstones Classroom Teacher
The Cornerstones Classroom Teacher position will be located at Central Perth Elementary School and is effective September 1, 2024.

The Avon Maitland District School Board is a full service, public, English school district in southwestern Ontario, bordering Lake Huron and covering the counties of Huron and Perth. The Board’s Administrative Offices are located here, and they contain the central support for 31 elementary and 8 secondary schools, approximately 1600 teachers and 900 support staff. The Cornerstones classroom provides a safe and supportive learning environment with an intensive focus for students to develop self-regulation skills. Literacy and numeracy will be an academic focus. The goal of Cornerstones is to provide students with a foundation or personal toolbox of self-regulation skills and strategies to empower them to experience increased academic well being in their home school environment.
Responsibilities
Performs the duties and responsibilities of a teacher as required by EDU (Regulation 298) and district administrative procedures and regulations
Provide education programming for students in accordance with EDU and AMDSB policies, administrative procedures and regulations
Participate in appropriate professional learning to support understanding of well-being, and pedagogical and assessment practices
Develop, update, maintain and implement the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP)
Understand and implement self regulation strategies
Work cooperatively with classroom staff to create a positive and supportive learning environment
Use BMS training/strategies in the classroom
Develop transition plans as outlined in the Cornerstones’ document, in collaboration with Student Support Team Coordinator, and home and host school teams
Facilitate transitions by maintaining close relationships with the home school and Learning Services (AMDSB) staff
Report to and is supervised by the Host School Principal
Schedule and facilitate Case Conferences and School Team Meetings
Obtain Consent for Service and Access for Student Support Team with each student in September
Complete IEP and IPRC documentation within the board system including maintenance of Aspen.
Complete request for transportation paperwork upon discharge of a student from the program
Qualifications/Experience
Other duties as may be required
Special Education, Part One
Additional Qualifications: Special Education Specialist or willingness to complete
Primary/Junior/Intermediate Qualifications Preferred
Experience using strategies to support students with lagging academic (reading/writing) and behavioural skills
Expected Competencies
Awareness of Circle of Security, Social Thinking, Leaky Brakes, and Zones of Regulation
Experience working with interdisciplinary teams
Expertise as a special education resource teacher or other related experiences
Required Qualifications
Must hold the required divisional qualifications, as noted above, in order to be eligible for this position;
Membership with the Ontario College of Teachers’ in good standing;
Demonstrated experience in the assigned duties of a teacher as outline in Regulation 298: Operation of Schools;
Proven ability to maintain discipline in the classroom (classroom management);
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment;
Experience working with G-Suite (Gmail, Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.) products;
