OUR COMPANY
At Square One, we’re aiming to modernize home insurance so that it better meets the needs of people today, not those from the 1970s or earlier. We’re doing this by eliminating unnecessary complexities built into traditional policies. Your very competitive compensation and benefits plan includes:
- A base salary of $55,000 per year.
- The ability to work from home.
- 3-weeks, not 2-weeks, of vacation to start.
- The flexibility to tailor your medical, dental, vision and extended health care coverage.
- In-house training as well as relevant external training, both paid by Square One.
YOUR ROLE
As an insurance agent, the way you interact with clients can make or break our relationship with them. So, you always aim to represent Square One in a friendly and professional manner. While the focus of your role is on providing quotes and selling policies to new clients, you know it’s just as important to provide great service to existing clients.
Your success in this role comes from your passion for helping people and your knowledgeable approach. You have strong social skills and genuinely believe it’s fun interacting with new people. You’re good at making real connections with potential clients because you have great listening skills. Once you know what a client needs, you take pride in being able to personalize a policy to those needs and, hopefully, to pass on some savings.
Over 90% of your day is spent on the phone, handling inbound calls and making outbound calls. You never pressure clients into buying a policy, but you’re also not scared to ask for the sale. Dealing with different calls and clients, you tailor your interaction to the situation at hand. And if challenges arise during a call, you take ownership and find graceful ways to deal with them.
One of the things you enjoy most about Square One is the supportive team environment. You’re never set up for failure; instead, you get all the coaching and training that you need to succeed.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Working in Square One’s call centre, you are the first and main point of contact for both potential and existing clients. As such, you have many important responsibilities, including:
- Handling a high volume of inbound calls from clients in a prompt and professional manner.
- Making outbound calls to clients who have received targeted marketing materials.
- Assessing client needs, providing quotes, and ultimately selling policies.
- Promoting Square One and encouraging clients to do the same.
- Responding to online chat and email inquiries from clients.
- Handling payment-related matters.
- Helping clients make changes to their policies.
- Taking claims reports from clients.
- Maintaining your training and industry knowledge.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
As a member of the Square One team, you have a desire to direct your own work to achieve the responsibilities of your role. You do this by becoming an expert at what you do, and by working with a team that has a broader purpose than just making profit. Those who you work with would describe you as someone who:
- Enjoys working with others and has a passion for helping clients.
- Delivers excellent client service and possesses strong telephone skills.
- Communicates effectively when speaking with, or writing to, others.
- Uses active listening and questioning skills to understand needs and issues.
- Takes a consultative approach to selling.
- Handles objections and deals with rejection well.
- Works well under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
- Pays close attention to detail.
- Uses sound judgement in making decisions and taking calculated risks.
- Adapts well to, and often initiates, change.
- Enjoys personal development and growth through learning.
- Provides and receives constructive feedback.

- Fluency in both English and French to serve the language needs of Québec clients.
- At least 2 years of experience selling insurance, preferably in a call centre environment.
- At least 1 year of tenure with a recent employer.

About Square One Insurance
Why work for Square One?
It’s simple — you want to be part of a tight-knit team where each person’s expertise is respected and valued. Here are more reasons why you should work for Square One:
A strong purpose:
We want to be the Apple of home insurance. Or at least, we aim to do for home insurance what GEICO and Progressive did for auto insurance in the United States.
A great culture:
We have a culture of respect, pride and innovation. We treat smart people smart. So, as a member of the team, your opinions matter. You’ll have direct access to the entire leadership team, including the company’s president. We’re also building a culture of recognition and fun by celebrating company and personal successes.
Innovative approach:
Starting from square one has given us many advantages. We’ve been able to create everything with our customers in mind, and we’re adopting best practices from other countries and other industries.
Focus and support:
Many people strive to be an expert at what they do. At Square One, you’re set to do just that. Our focus on home insurance, the great coaching and training we offer, and the solid computer and telephone systems we provide, are all designed to help you be an expert.
A modern office:
Our modern head office is conveniently located in Downtown Vancouver. It’s easy to access by bus, Skytrain or Westcoast Express. In fact, we’re located above both the Granville Skytrain Station and the Vancouver City Centre Canada Line Station. During breaks, you can frequent cool cafes, restaurants, and shops.
Casual dress:
Imagine being able to wear jeans and sneakers to work every day! That’s not something you can do at a traditional insurance agency. It makes coming to work a whole lot more pleasant.
Free food and drinks:
We go out for dinner regularly, on the company’s dime, to celebrate our successes. Our fridge is always stocked with drinks for everyone to enjoy. And, we have an espresso machine for your use.
Fair compensation:
You deserve to be fairly compensated for your contributions, so we offer very competitive base salaries. You’ll get three weeks, not two weeks, of vacation to start. And, you can tailor your other benefits to your individual needs.
What is a virtual interview?
Virtual interviews help employers connect with job seekers when they’re not in the same physical location. Since hiring is a human process, employers would like to talk with you online (chat, video, or phone) to see if you meet the requirements for the job.
